I've got 1989 90hp v4 , the overheating alarm will come on and stay on after running it for a short period of time , I will have to let it sit for approx. 15 minute's the alarm will shut off , question is , water pump or impellar or possible both .Any help would be appreciated !!!!

your impellar is your water pump.....it could be either impellar or thermostat.....most likely impellar. 35.00 part and an hour to change it....

check for water spray at the exhaust. Also check water intakes for obstructions... Impeller is easy, may need to be replaced every few years...
