How many hours will a typical 225hp engine last? lets say 2007 merc 225 optimax with 300 hours. Thats abouts 60 hours a season. can i realistically expext 5000 hours plus or 8000 hours on newer engine? any opinion would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I bet Capt Mike Koepp has at least 1500-2000 hours on his 99 225 opti. 5000 hours would be about 200 hours for 24 seasons. That's a lot of hours per year for a lot of years. Could they last that many hours? Sure, with excellent care and some luck.

The hours on that motor would be pretty normal to low.
