Thanks for posting the picture Rick. Someday I'll figure out how to do that on my own.

The day was Sunday Nov.16 it was my last day of a three day hunt in ND. The night before I was almost ran over by a 150 class whitetail, but that's another story. Around 9 am we spotted a good one on the edge of a tree belt and decided to make a stalk on it. I had a SW wind and walked 3/4 of a mile to get down wind of the deer. One side of the 30 foot wide belt was corn stubble and the other side was a worked soybean field. I took the muddy bean field to remain quiet in the 37 degree morning. I took my time slowly scanning the short marshy glass that covered the ground. I thought the deer would be just over this little hill but I was wrong. One more step and I saw this beautiful set of antlers sticking staight up almost looking fake. The deer was watching me with his chin tight to the ground. I knew if I stopped walking he would get up so I continued on making the deer think that I didn't see him. I got as close as I wanted to get and still couldn't see a body. I put the gun up and stopped and then he jumped and got about 10 feet before I put a 150gr. accutip from my Weatherby 7mm rem. mag. in his spine. I couldn't believe that the noise from him running had ended. I went over to the deer and was the happiest hunter in the world. I haven't been able to get one yet in WI, but I still have time. I was out tonight with the smokepole and didn't see any but I heard a ton of ice cracking in the swamp. If that sound doesn't get your heart pumping you have a problem. Opening day I passed an 8 and a 10 point. They were 13 inches wide and needed one more year. I hunted hard all season so far and saw quite a few differant bucks, but after that one everything looks so small. We need to let the deer age like fine wine and the rewards will be sweet!

Thanks for the complements John and Rick. Now if I could only figue out a way to catch big walleyes when it counts, I would consider myself lucky! Until then I'll keep donating my money in tournaments. Oh yeah, on my way back I picked up my new boat, I had a great couple of days! I guess I am lucky to have such an understanding wife! Now off to the stand I go.

Tell us what your boat of choice was! There is a thread on walleye boats and motors you should list it on, below general discussion.
