| I am new to trolling. I have fished jigs and pitched cranks for over 20 years, but have't trolled much. What are the basics? Including using planer boards? Lead core? |

Location: blue mounds,wisc | this reply could take hours to type.my suggestion is to hook up with a guy that trolls alot .there is so much to learn.walleye-insider provides alot of great trolling tips also.enter a PWT tournament on lake erie or lake michigan than you can learn from great trollers the basic presentations on open water trolling. |

Yowza.....Like Larry mentioned, I could write volums on the subject and still never cover all the aspects and techniques. And buy the time I was done, somebody would have invented 2 other ways, tweeks or stratigies to troll and catch walleyes. Heres a link for you to read. The other guys pretty well covered what I was thinking (especially the part about spending a day in the boat with a good troller), but I will add this:
You have all winter to read books, magazines and even internet articles about the subject of trolling. There are an endless supply of sites with articles on all types of fishing, specifically walleye fishing. It would take years to read them all! The problem is "filtering" good from bad info and the info that applys to your type of waters (that's where the day on the water with a good troller shortens the learning curve). One book I would recommend to start with would be "Precision Trolling" by Mark Romanack. Costs $25 it's worth $100. Good luck!

| I will orger the book. Thanks for the answers, I knew this was a pretty braod subject. Maybe I should narrow down a few questions, would you guys consider answering a few for a novice? |
