My old 35MM Canon Mega Zoom finally gave up the ghost and now I am in the market for a new digital, any recommendations? I have used many different brands that clients have had in the boat and can't really say that I have thought much of any that I have used so far so any first had observations would be greatly appreciated.

Loren,

I have a Kodak 4330 and it takes great pics. Very esy to use, and to download to your PC, just put it in the EasyShare dock, and push a button. It takes really good pictures, and had good resolution, 3.1 MegaPixels.

Megapixels is the important number, besides price, when it comes to digital cameras. The next would probably be optical zoom. Digital zoom doen't mean squat, really. But the Optical zoom is key. The higher the number, the better.

As I said, I like my Kodak, and they have some newer models out with more features. I see that Canon they are advertising on TV, and it would be worth looking into. I think Olympus makes a water resistant camers that might be a good option for you.

Good luck with your search. Let us know what you decide on, and how it is working out for you.

If you can afford a $1,000, the new Canon 300D is an excellent digital camera in a SLR format.

Loren.

Heres my honest opinion. There is still nothing that takes pictures better than a good 35mm camera. But the advantages like fast turnover time, no development cost, good quality and now the prices of digitals are worth the effort. I bought a Hewlette Packard 912 three years ago and it's taken exactly 527 pictures since then without problems, in all kinds of weather. Thats not to say I'm not careful when it's wet out, but I did that when I had my 35mm. Mine has the Pentax 3X lens optixs, with 2x zoom. I especially love the fact that I can download all the pictures on discs when I get home and e-mail them to clients or friends even before they go home from our trip. Only down-side so far, it eats batteries quit fast. I've noticed by taking them out when not in use, it helps. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend it.

I had mentioned the Canon Rebel Digital SLR in an earlier post, called it the 300D which is the European model. Just bought one, I have been a film user for years, semi professional, doing weddings as such. The pics out of this Digiatl Rebel are awsome in addition to havein the advantages of an SLR, also any CAnon EOS lenses will work on the camera. Real fast on auto focus, can use as a point in shoot while learing if not familiar with other aspects of slr photography. And, no, lol, I don't work for Canon, but they do knock the socks of Nikon.I

That's cool Daren, I am getting that same camera (Canon Digital Rebel) after the 1st of the year for all the same reasons. I am looking forward to it. I have used the Nikon D100 quite a bit - it will be interesting to see how this Canon compares.
