Member Posts: 714 | The name...Verado. The price.... 275 hp.....$19,700 dealer list, plus an additional 2500+/- for the special stearing package and controls!! Will I have one this year? Only if my new 21" Storm is ready, other wise next year. Either way, I won't get my rig until the new Merc kicker is out so it will come complete. I'm thinking I'll be giving Larry Eaton a call about then and see if he wants to take it for a test run on Erie for a couple days! I'll bring the rig, all he has to do is bring all the fishing gear! ![]() Edited by JLDII 2/12/2004 10:34 AM

Recently learned that the X Motor is a long stroke engine modeled after one being built in Germany. Power and durability are the main features, with a lower - but fatter - profile. Also, its suppose to be a much quieter and cleaner engine which is a BIG TIME CHANGE that will benefit our enviroment. Here's great hopes in its success!

Member Posts: 714 | Here is a release from Mark Klossner of Mercury Marine about the new motors. This just came out at 10:30 today. I am copy/pasting it here from another site, which I won't name. "You know, so few times in our working lives can we feel a sense of pride and joy in producing and designing a product that is truely revolutionary. Today is one of those days. I know some of you have been worried about mother Mercury - asking out loud - Mercury what the heck are you doing? I understand your sentiments. We have been embarked on a project for 5 years, at a cost of tens of millions of dollars. The blood, sweat and tears have been many - but at the end of the day, we have something truely unique. For those of you that have bled black for the past years, this is your day to. We have designed a product that the Japanese do not have, and it will instill a great deal of pride in you as a Mercury fan. Please join me in celebrating in the launch of the new Mercury FourStroke---- the Verado. The Verado family consists of a 275, 250, 225 and 200 hp of supercharged, in-line 6 cylinder, 2.6L engines. They are the first, production supercharged fourstrokes in the world. They are 24-valve, direct acting double overhead cam. The engine block of the Verado has been specifically designed to accomodate the supercharger. The supercharger IS NOT simply an add on to an existing engine block. Everything was designed from scratch to be reliable, durable and powerful. Verado is sequential multi-port, electronic fuel injected. Which is controlled by the powerful PCM of the engine. It is of course, 100% SmartCraft compatible. The engine will outperform every fourstroke in its class, and even many of the 2-strokes. It has best-in-class sound levels at idle, with a dba level of 52dba (Yamaha has about 54 dba with its 225 EFI Fourstroke). A unique midsection and engine mounting system virtually eliminate all vibration into the boat - simply put folks, there's nothing quieter. Walleye guys, how does a low RPM level of 550 sound? That's right, Verado will go to 550 RPM without a problem - you can troll with a 275hp. Verado features power steering. This IS NOT HYDRAULIC STEERING like you have today. Our exclusive Power Steering requires about half of the steering effort of Hydraulic steering. It will change the way you drive your boat. Verado is 100% Digital Throttle and Shift. Nothing, not even your automobile, is more responsive in the marketplace. And, it eliminates all of the hoses and cables running from your helm to the engine. Verado's high RPM level is 6400 RPM, that's right, imagine the propping possibilities you will have with this engine. The torque it produces is unmatched. That is why, last fall, we could make a Lund 2025, with two guys in it, go 62 mph. It lifts the hull, giving you better performance. The family features a 70-amp, belt-driven, fully regulated alternator system with plenty of charging power for your rigs. The midsection of the engine,is all new, with a mounting system that is unlike any in the industry. It sits differently on the boat, and turns differently with programmable power trim and tilt.
