| Im pretty new to walleye fishing. Can someone please tell me how to just rig a 4" gulp crawler on a jig head? do you use a stinger hook or just hook it like a the gulp minnow? |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Start the hook in the center/tip of the crawler. Thread it straight down the middle just far enough to cover the length of the hooks shaft and then out. This keeps it straight and pretty much twist free on the drop when jigging. Should be pleanty of bite left between the shaft and shank of the hook sticking out for the job. If your using the right weight the whole thing should be slurped in when the walleye hits it anyways. A lot of guys will hook/stack another Gulp Minnow in the tip of the head. This might work for worms as well. You could add a stinger if the bite seems finicky. But they usually end up causing more twist and being a pain. If I add one I do so, so it rides on top of the Gulp and not connect to it. This is if I'm fishing in places with hard and mostly snag free bottoms.

| awesome, great info. Thanks i really appreciate it. Also, is there a big difference between the regular gumball jig (a full circle) and the "walleye jig head"? Im looking at the BPS ones in particular. I understand that the walleye ones have a flat side which makes the bait stand up more, are these better than the regular ones? Are they used for a specific type of jigging? Again, I'm new and I understand these questions are probably stupid and really obvious, thanks for the help |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | No question is a stupid one. Nobody is born with this knowledge. We all learned it through experience or from somebody else. Just some are more willing to share it then others. I've used about every type and shape of jig going. I used to pour thousands of my own round ball type jigs heads for years. They all work but some are refined and defined by their customs shapes. They all have to do with either holding the plastics better or being more streamlined or customed designed to stand up or have less water resistence, which allows them to fall faster using less weight in river current conditions. I've pretty much settled with the Knuckle Ball type right now for virticle jigging or slac water casting. They also hold splastics very well. But still love the Bullet and disc shaped jigs for quarter casting while anchored in heavier river current conditions. |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | When teamed with the Gulp Minnows, the Knuckle Ball type holds onto the bait like no other and pretty much becomes one with the bait. The key is making a small cut on an angle near the throat/gill of the Gulp Minnow. The hooked design of the Knuckle Ball slides into this cut you make and holds it firm and straight on the hook. And unfortrunetly, this is one of those deals where showing you is almost the only clear way of explaining it. Sorry. Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Went back in the Ol' Gallery and found a few pictures of some the different type jig heads and plastics I use. Some are my own concoctions that I make and dress up myself with fly tying components. I do so for color variations and to slow the fall rates of the jigs. The first shows a tagged walleye with the Knuckle Ball and Gulp Minnow rigged. In fact, there are two tagged walleyes in these pictures.
