We are planning on coming up also, we will have a camper with a ton of bullet holes in it to leave on the lake. It is ugly but will work. I am not sure if there will be enough ice yet but we will see. If not I do have a portable. Good Luck Dan Palmer

I may just leave for the MIL's tonight. The wife and kids are already there, and there's nothing to do here but pack and wait to leave in the morning. I may be better off sleeping an extra 2 hours tomorrow morning. But then again, it is awfully nice and quiet here. See you in the morn!

Sorry guys I couldn't make it. I got up at 3:00 and it was still sleeting out, I figured the drive wasn't worth the risk although. I wish I could have been there! Did you have any luck?
Good Luck

Sorry we did not stop to say hello, but we were running late and wanted to get in on the morning bite. Good thing we did, we caught 2 14" crappies right away then almost nothing the rest of the day. little walleyes. Good to see such a following though. Dan Palmer

I decided to drive up through the weather in the morning. Interesting drive to say the least. Thanks to the truckers for behaving, LOL. Took about an hour longer than usual, but I made it to the Park around 7:45. Met Larry, John, and Greg(WalleyeX), and played with GPS's for a few minutes. Seems my GlobaMap 100 is off somehow. Anyway, we loaded up Larry's trailer, and my sled, and with Blue riding in my lap, headed for the fishing spot, driving into the sleet and snow. Once to the spot, we drilled some holes, found the break we wanted to fish, and set our tip ups. I put out two, and jigged fished a third.

Not long after we set up, Larry's experience on this water showed, as he had the first flag of the day. A short eye was released, and we talked as we waited for more action. Again and again, the same flag was going up, and more short eyes were released into that hole. A flag in a different hole was also was tripping more than the others, but there was some action on all the flags. Around 10:00, I got the call from Theedz that he and Mr. Sluggo were at the park. I emptied the Otter Sled, and headed off to bring them out. Once there, they quickly set up, and I got my 2 tipups back down.

A short while later, I had a flag, and set the hook on a heavy fish. The fish stayed down, and with good head shakes and some short runs, I thought sure I had a nice eye on. Only when I got the fish to the hole, did I see that it was a nice pike. After another short run, I brought it's head into the hole, and up on to the ice. A quick measurement, and some pics, and the 35"er was slid back into the hole. Nice fish, and my biggest Petenwell Pike.

Greg got a 17" walleye and Theedz got a 14.5" Crappie a short time later. After a lunch of John's chilli, and Grag's venison samiches, we settled back to watch our tipups. Several more short eyes, and 2 more nice Crappies by Theedz were iced. Around 4:00 PM, we called it a day, took some group picturs, and headed for the Park. Upon arriving at the access, we were greeted by a family trying to free their Jeep, which was hung on the frame on the heave ice. Completely blocking our exit, we tryed to help push them out, but no go. Theedz and Sluggo took their sleds around, and headed for home. Larry and I headed a couple miles north to the next access, while John and Grag drove our trucks to meet us. I'll bet there were a bunch of PO's fisherman at Monroe Park later. We loaded up, said our goodbyes, and were on the road home. I ended up with the fish we kept, and we fried them up at the M-I-L's house that same night. They were excellent.

Thanks Larry for setting this up, and John and Greg for the great lunch. Why is it that food always tastes better on the ice? Theedz and Mr. Sluggo, thanks for keeping my pup warm! hehehe

we had a great day shareing stories about our past fishing adventures. the weather was nice in the morning . no wind, and decent temps. as SHEP mentioned the drive up was as i put it a white knuckle ride. good thing i had my partner JOHN MANNERINO along to keep me focused on the road.i showed the guys my presentation that i came up with five years ago.and boasted that i would get ten flags to one of theirs.well i had twelve before they had one.i think i made believers out of them.[ keep it a secret fellas!] i really had a great time and made some new friends and would jump at the chance to fish with them agian any time any place.
WALLEYE X i will definalty take you up on some bago fishing and in return i will show you the mississippi.
Thanks guys for risking your lives to make it anyway,it was a very memorable day on the BIG PETE.LETS DO IT AGIAN
SHEP where is the photos of that beautiful northern pike?

Larry,

It's there. I'm on a slow dial up here in Adams, so it will probably show up in a few hours! LOL. Notice I didn't mention your secret? My lips are sealed!

Was an awesome day after a crappy start. After waiting an hour for the sleet to stop and the roads to get salted I get to Sluggo's and then get called home for a CarbonMonoxide detector alarm. After checking several posibilities we figured out that the exhaust from my truck warming up must've gotten into the house and set if off. Anyway, got back on the road about 9 or so and reached the Pete about 10:30. Shep hauled us out and we got set up. The first fish I pull out was 14.5" Crappie. I caught two others about 12 inches and 1 short eye before heading home. Got stuck at the ramp because some DumbA---- decided to take their Jeep for a ride on the lake and high centered it on the frame. Must not have been "Trail Rated". Sluggo got em good. When asked how the fishing was he told them "About as good as your driving."

Anyway, was a blast to spend the day there. Great to meet all you guys.

Shep, where's the picture of that Jeep. My wife needs to see it for story verification. Although, she's already asking how she's not going to know it was at like noon at not 4:00. PS Dinner at Pheasant Inn was great...Peppercorn Filet.

Looks like you guys had a better time fishing than I had working. I wish I could have made it. I think we should do a Depere trip in the near future. Somebody else will have to be the guide though. Congrats on a nice day of fishing.

Depere is a possibility, if it's froze up good. Went last year for the afternoon with RangerPat, and Eric caught a real nice eye. Looked like most of the people came out an hour before dark. That's when we left, hehehe

Theedz, I forgot to post that pic of the Jeep. Will take care of it tonight.

Here is the pic of the people that were hung up at the access at Monroe Park. We tried to help them out, but it was just hung up too far back on the frame, and the front tires were over the edge of the heave.

WalleyeX, I cleaned the fish, and cooked them up that very night. Nothing better then fresh fish caught through the ice. Thanks guys!
