The wind did howl, and the fish did bite.

The Devils Lake system provided a consistent weight for the majority of the field, with only 4 pounds difference between 40th place and tenth. The big fish bite was reportedly pretty concentrated for some of the Pros in the top ten, creating concern the fish were picked off enough to make it tough to repeat on day two. Merc Pro Gary Parsons said that isn't the case with his 4th place weight. Tomorrow should be interesting.

The wind is forecast to blow again tomorrow at about 15 out of the NW throughout the morning and early afternoon, gusting higher. Not much change there from today.

Techniques in place varied from casting Flicker Shads, pulling spinners, snap jigging, vertical jigging and lead core...pretty much every way a walleye can be caught.

Mark Courts came to the scales with 19.78 for the lead. Second was Josh Vanderweide with 18.31. Third was Chris Gilman, a tough Championship competitor, with 17.55, fourth Gary Parsons with 17.01, and fifth local Pro Matthew Taylor with 16.62.

There will likely be some major changes in the NWT leaderboard tomorrow.
