i have spent all my life fishing the mississippi river, i grew up with a jig pole in each hand and caught many fish over five pounds. it was eight seasons ago that i started to troll for walleye and sauger. i have kept a journal for twelve years now , and have seen a huge increase in the numbers and size of my fish due to pulling cranks. i have alot of confidence in jig fishing and consider it one of my best technics. but i have to say that if the" money " is on the line that trolling allways wins.conditions dictate the presentation due to current, when the rivers are rageing the fish go to the bank makeing the jig the most effective.

90% of the time, jig-artifical. I do wish you had included hair jigs in the survey though! The other 10% would be divided between trolling and Wolf River rigs in the flooded timber.

stepman, Glad to hear the 'pegs' are improving. I spent a few weeks off mine due to destroyed knees a couple times, and can sympathize!

I fish Walleyes from the opener here in Wisconsin until Muskke season opens later. Most of the time I am pitching Creatures and jigs, using a very unique method to pound early weed edge and shallow sand/rock 'eyes. Live bait is held out as a last resort if the fish are really 'off'.

John, should be okay now. Have a set of steps set aside for you, just give a shout when ready. Let me know when you come down this way and maybe we can get together. As soon as the cast comes off going to go and harass Hutch for a couple days, ought to be a trip.

John just let me know and I will meet you at the landing. I'll bring a couple sets of steps with me that way I'm sure to have the right one to fit your trailer and I'll bolt them on right there. Better hope for a warm spell or 2 weeks will turn to 3 or 4.

Hey Stepman, make sure you charge "Rocky", John that is double. He's going to vegas and he told me that he ALWAYS WINS BIG out there. I guess he'll have more money to buy more of those no good for nothing glass shad raps. Let me know the day before you come and I'll get some extra lead pots and tying vises here and will put you and the ole man to work. Hutch

Either I will be at ottawa or in the area on 2/20-21 or 2/ 29. also 3/4-5-6-7. Your right if the weather dont turn around soon I will bring my jonboat to push out over the ice to get in. John

Hutch, going to vegas and winning to me means the plane landed safely going and coming back. Dont worry Larry,John has already spent time on the water with HUTCH so he has already been christened to the fishing world. as long as he doesnt listen to me he will be alright. John let me know if you hit it big in vegas, you will need a newer set of steps for the NEW rig you will be buying.

O.K. guys. I`m not a big gambler but I did put a budget together for the trip. Whatever 50 bucks a day wins. If I hit it I have to OUT DO hutch with steps on BOTH sides so I dont have to walk around. HEHEHE. I`m looking foward more to getting on the water. Starting in a couple of weeks,a tourney just about every 2 weeks untill june. Can you say road trip.. John
