Thanks.

Yes the WAT tournament in Bellevue was alot of fun, but the bite was tough. Sat morning the fish were "on" early, but shut down for us completely as the wind switched from light out of the south to 29 sustained out of the NW with gusts up to 50, like someone flipped a switch. The water in our area also turned extremely muddy. On sunday we had the NW wind still at 10-20 with 19 degrees at take off. The fishing for us was actually better on Sun despite the severe cold front, as the water had cleared up some and the fish really turned on for a short but intense stretch around midday. The sun came out and we have a couple of color combos (we were pulling double cranks on 3-ways) that really work well for us on the river in the sun, and that really seemed to be the key for our bigger fish.

Second tournament in a row Bremmer and Watson showed they are pretty good with a jig and won the tournament going away, congrats to those two. Our parters Denver and Bob McKinnon ended up 5th, we were happy for that, and Glynn and Schmerbach had a very good second day to come back and make the money (4th), which was not a suprise. Local LaCrosse area anglers Brye and Brye took third with 2 six-fish days. Finally was able to meet Larry Eaton, he is teamed up with a long time WAT angler and friend, John Mannerino for 2004, and they also did well, I believe weighing a limit or close to it both days, which was not easy to do given the poor conditions.

Anyone wishing to compete on the Mississippi River and have a whole lot of fun doing it should really consider fishing the WAT. It is a circuit on the rise that gets bigger and better every year. It was great to see some new teams on the WAT this year, including a husband/wife team, we hope they stay with it through all 4 tournaments. Also thanks to Gander Mountain LaCrosse for having the cranks we needed on Friday night to get the job done.

Zach

Zach - you and Curt really came through grinding it out for those fish. The Gander Pro staff makes an early appearance. I think you two might of ground a pair of ditches in the river bottom that will probably take all summer to fill back in. Also - hats off the Galen and Tim - if the DNR would have seen how many fish they pulled in 2 days, they might lift the slot already.. lol. Tom and Mark Brye also pulled a bunch of fish in very tough conditions.. It was also nice seeing the rest of the WAT crew back out there as well as meeting John's new partner Larry Eaton. Genoa should be a real blast - see you in 2 weeks..
John - look for my order for some of that Italian sausage - great stuff!! - can't find that around here..

John, if you bring the sausage to Genoa I'll bring a container of the best hot giardiniera you'll ever have.

Rick, as you know there were alot of fish caught over the 20" slot that had to go back in the river, and I'm sure Tim and Galen had more than a couple of those.

Congrats Zach and Kurt for a great finish. And once again congrats to Galen and Tim for being so gracious in taking my entry fee.

And congrats to Rick and Jay for catching the window vandal that was at large over the weekend

I hope Jay doesn't take that "at large" comment the wrong way. Maybe should have gone with the 16 oz instead of the 24.

I heard the best line all weekend about the team of Bremmer and Watson. They can jig up a walleye in a guppy aquarium!!! I think I had more fun this past weekend at Bellevue than at any other WAT event in the past. And thanks to my partner, we had a good day on saturday . Anchored 30 feet from the winners and watching them SPANK fish all day was getting to me, and just showed how good they really are. Not sure about the cooking days for genoa but if anybody wants me to bring anything from here, let me know. I would be happy to bring orders with me to Genoa. Looking foward to fishing the best walleye pool on the river with the best of people again, but now I have to go and fight downtown traffic here in Chicago!!!

Rick, I can't believe you're putting in an order for snacks. Better order some cheese and crackers too. Hate to have you and Jay get hungry while you're fishing and loose your concentration. Had a blast with everyone in Bellevue. Great bunch of guys. Shelley
