Member Posts: 30 Location: Berlin, WI | I'm hopeful to get some advice soon because I'm ready to respool all my reels....I originally posted this message on the "Fireline on Spinning Reels" subject but am posting it as a new subject in order to get better response. I fish primarily on Winnebago, but include the Fox and some other area lakes as well as a very clear water lake (Anvil) up north. I use spinning reels and use all methods EXCEPT trolling. After reading all the posts about line, I think I've decided on the Fireline for JIGGING. Now some questions PLEASE: 1. What pound strength/line diameter combinations does it come in? Would you agree with a 6# strength line for the type fishing I do or would you recommend 8. Given that, what line diameter would you recommend with that? 2. Do you recommend the Flame Green? Is this not visible to the fish but visible to the fisherman? Is this okay in very clear water? 3. Since I will back it with a mono, as many of you recommended, what knot do you recommend to connect the two? 4. THAT WAS FOR JIGGING, now what do you recommend for fishing with slip bobbers and drifting and casting (with crawlers on harnesses, crankbaits, etc.)? Please include brand, pound test and color. I've learned so much over the last 3 months from this site -- so many techniques, baits, things to remember, that my head is nearly overloaded. I finally started a 3-ring notebook that I've been keeping copies of your posts in. Thank you for your time in sharing information!!!

Member Posts: 42 Location: Fergus Falls, MN | 1) I use the same pound test Fireline as the mono I would typically use. Line diameter rarely plays any role in my selection. If I usually used 6 pound mono, I use 6 pound Fireline. The reduction in diameter is just a bonus. 2) I love Flame Green. I'm sure the fish see it. I don't think they equate what it is though. I've not noticed any line shyness in clear water. I fish central Minnesota into Ontario in some very clear waters. 3) Back To Back Uni Knot. 4) Fireline and slip bobbers are a pain. I do use Fireline some and if I use 2 bobber knots I can get away with it. Bobbers is where I prefer mono. And the only place I prefer mono. Fireline for everything else. 8, 10 and 14 for cranks. 6, 8 and 10 for 3 ways and harnesses. All depends on the size of the weight and the conditions. Just like any other line choice.

Location: Rhinelander | When casting jigs I use monofilament. My favorite is USA in 6#, made by Shakerpeare, I think. great line, very good quality, tough, and low in cost. I don't like fireline casting jigs because it is TOO sensitive for me and I set the hook early, missing fish. Casting cranks, it's 10# Fireline all the way. Slip bobbers, I use the lightest superline I can spool. Last year I used Gorilla braid in 4# diameter, loved it.

Member Posts: 67 Location: Sth/side Chicago | I use a blood knot to connect the mono to the other line. I would go with a lbs test that has a 6 or 8 lbs diameter, the actual lbs test will be much higher, maybe 25lbs.. Haven't seen the flame green myself, I like a Moss green or a gray with my superlines, white and bright colors I do not like. To be honest though, I still use and like mono(6-8lbs test Maxima Chameleon or Silver Thread an-40) for jigging and prefer these superlines for crankbaits or if bass or musky fishing bucktails, spinnerbaits..etc.. For crankbaits I like using either Spiderline in around 25lbs test in a green or gray or Tuff line xp in the same.
