Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | Tell us about your experiences in relation to catching fish during the full moon. What about the spawn? Does the moon affect the spawn? My observations: about 10 years ago, I was lucky enough to be prefishing for a PWT event with Mike Gofron and friends on Lake Erie. On the evening of the full moon, we were still out over Niagra Reef after dark. As the moon reached it's peak above us, fish began to splash all around us. You could literally smell the spawn in the air. They were heavy into it that night. The next morning, we found three big females resting near the surface, obviously beat from the rigors of the spawn. I'm a firm believer that if the mater temperatures are near the mid 40's and a full moon is present, the fish will spawn under the full moon.

| Last year on Erie the pre-fishing before the PWT tournament turned up females full of eggs. The full moon was the night before the tournament started, and about 90% of the females brought to the scales had spawned out. They must go nuts for the full moon - which is tonight eh? | |||

Member Posts: 215 | I have observed in my profession as a law enforcement officer that those "kind of" loony people tend to be really loony the 2-3 days before and after a full moon. so if this holds true for the walleyes...they become more active on those days too. Just my SWAG(scientific wild a$$ guess).

| Heres something really loony to add; most everyone has parasites in them and this is when these critters get the most active, hence the reason for the loonies getting loony! If this is true (I have no clue), maybe if we put all these loonies on a strict diet of garlic and horseradish there would be more fishing time for you law enforcement types during full moon periods!:-) | |||
