Location: Neenah Wi |
I'm looking to upgrade to a zx2050 or 1950 with a yam225,t8 and walk thru windshield.I would not be opposed to buying a used non-tournament boat 2000 or newer.Any tips on where I can get the best price on a new rig.I know service is an issue but price is more important right now.Distance is not an issue. Thanks
|

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota | I think the first ZX2050 came out in 2001. They had 20" transoms and ran 225 Vmax motors. They are probly the fastest ZX2050's out there. The 2002 had the 25" transoms and most came with the 225 Yamaha 4 strokes. The 2003 and 2004's had the 250HPDI's and 225 four strokes bolted to them. Interior layout is almost the same on all of the years, the livewells are shallower on the 2001 models. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me @ [email protected] |

| I have a new ZX2050 running a Yam 250, turning a 21 pitch prop with a T8 kicker mouted on the port side. This boat lists badly to the port at 3000 to about 4200 RPM at which time I can trim up and flatten out the ride. With a proper trim, the boat handles chop well but any time that I cross a wake the boat poipoises wildly and I must slow down and trim down to get control. The boat lists a measured 5 degrees, that equals one inch per degree of runout, meaning that the port side is down about 6 to 7 inches. This isn't a lot of fun. What is your experience with your boat? Thanks. |

| I would suggest that you distribute the stowed gear, anchors, etc. to level the boat.I have the new zx2050 and run a 21 pitch, with a mercury optimax. I have had no problems whatsoever with the ride.It may be you are trimmed to high, and this would account for the wake problem. The hulls are fast, and there is a fine line of trimming the motor,to get the right lift, and speed.hope it helps ....hafe |

| Forgot to mention the motor could also be bolted to high on the transum, this gives more speed at plain, but does create some handling problems, one of which, that you described. If it fact when you trim down a little and the problem goes away,or does not happen, then that is probably the cause of it...hafe |

| Thanks for your reply. I have no heavy object stowed on the port side. The list is not a problem when the boat is trimmed at about 4200 RPM, the boat runs flat. The outboard was mounted high with the bolts in the third hole from the top, I had it lowered to the second hole wlith no result. Wake is a problem with almost any degree of trim. I think that there may be a problem with the bottom. What do you think? |

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota | First I feel I should remind all Skeeter owners that they are driving a performance hull. What I mean by that is they are made to run on the pad, if your not up on the pad your pushing the pad and the result of that is porpoising. IMHO the Yamaha props don't do much for the ZX2050 hull either. I switched to Tempest prop, and that helped considerably. I also run my motor as high as I can. But that's the way "I" prefer the handling.
Skeeter has issued a stablizer to several other ZX2050 owners that have been experiencing handling problems. They look like this:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.j...
The ZX2050 hull is not meant to plow water, it's desgined to run on top of the water. The stabilizers increase transom lift and that gets it on the pad, then the boat's happy and handles well.
The listing is caused by the prop torque, this is not an uncommon event when your running a very large outboard. The off shore boats use trim tabs to address this, but it's been my experience with the ZX2050 that once you get it on the pad the listing is eliminated.
I tested a Merc Rev4 21" and for a stock prop it worked great on the ZX2050 hull, just to slow for me (56mph GPS) Unbelievable hole shot and handled like a Ferarri.
If you not a wide open, hauling butt, kinda driver like me it would be worthwhile to check into the stabilizer.
Please contact Skeeter Boats and your dealer with your handling problems. They will take care of you
