Location: Rhinelander | I spoke to many anglers Sunday night and the reports were mixed. Vilas county had many lakes with the 'eyes still spawning, and many males caught. Oneida had about the same reports. The western Wisconsin 'eye waters produced well, too, and most fish there were JUST finished or finishing the spawn.
I didn't fish, but hope to tonight. My opener lake, Lake George, was empty pretty much all weekend, probably because of the coled temps and wind. Sue and I will get a couple hours in tonight barring rain, so we should have fresh fish for dinner. |

| Youre right about Vilas, we were there and did ok on the walleyes, mostly males. The fish were really shallow, so we figured they were still in the ritual. |

Location: Rhinelander | I went out to my favorite panfish lake yesterday, and beat the crappies and gills up real well. Lots of crappies at about 11", and some 9" gills to boot. The fish were in the old growth shoreline weeds in about 3', and were easy on a Demon Custom Jigs and Spins ice jig and a wax worm. What a blast that was!
I got a couple walleyes jigging the breaklines off the rocks, but pitched them back because the lake doesn't have many and they were 18" females. No muskies sighted, despite the 54 degree temps. I cruised the shallows all day fishing crappies, and usually see a few big 'skis. |
