And I'm feeling that old familliar pain in both shoulders this morning from the Pencil Plug whippen extravaganza. Had a couple curve balls thrown at us even before the trip began, that some of you may want to take note of. My usual route taking the Detroit exit off of 69 to the Marrysville exit, has been closed because of construction. We had to go through Port Huron and jump on 29 to get to Marine City. Not a major problem but one I was unsure of, being a route I've never taken before. It actually seemed easier and faster. And even though the Marine City boat launch ramp was almost full of vehicles last night, very few went downriver like we did. Of course I don't know how anbody else did except us, and that was about what I would say was only fair, success wise. They seemed either to be hitting short or engulfing the whole pencil plug, there was no inbetween. The water temp was 51 degrees and the visability pretty good. Our best depth was 21.6 feet. Lots of these little brown weed and old leaf goobers floating downriver in the water column, catching on both your line and lures. Oh ya, and a decent size log one of my buddy hooked up early. Man, do they ever fight nice in that current. Our final tally was 5 for 11 when we called her quits around 2:00am, with a couple real dandys in the mix. Wonder Bread/Black Head and Silver/Black/Orange Scale was the hot lures. Pictures to fallow. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

He said he had a ball and wanted to try the whippen on the river. A month after that trip he had a heart attack and actually died twice on the sugeons table and was revived. He says he's trying to get in as many fishing experiences as he can before it happens again. I'm not syure how many smiles I'd have in his shoes either.

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Hey Steve... I can always tell when it's summer time. Every salesman I know goes into his (Yes Sir, No Sir, Can I help you Sir, dialog). Don't take this wrong, I know this is indeed a universal word that is used and meant with respect without getting overly personal. ![]() But, you have my permissions to just call me Dan or Capt: on the board. I'm having enough problems dealing with my age, let alone getting the (Sir) monicur thrown at me...:-) Edited by walleye express 5/22/2004 12:42 PM

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Rob. The anchor I use on the St. Claire is actually pretty small when you consider the awsome current comming down a river that drains three of the five Great Lakes. It's the Fluke style anchor with a 5 foot piece of chain in front of it. I cannot say enough about the holding reliability difference it made with the chain, after I added it in front of the anchor. I would have usually had at least 3 to 5 trips on the St. Claire by now, but the rains we've been getting in biblical perportions the last 3 weeks, has had all my favorite rivers muddy, debris filled and at flood or near flood stages. This fishery will often last until mid-June in most years. Next week I have two charters booked for the Tittabawassee, as well as having my TR-1/Yamaha HT installed on Tuesday. Send me a personal e-mail with your phone numbers on it, and if you can go on short notice some weekday night, I'll give ya a call. It's about a 110 mile trip for me one way. Cost me about $40.00 for gas at todays price. I try and get two guys plus myself tyo split the cost. You may be included with a friend if thats O.K.? I know it's not the best way to hook up for a fishing trip, but the best I can do during this time of year. ![]()
