Are there any schedules out for any of the big pro-am events for next year? I would like to try my hand in the ametaur division of a few tournaments to see what it's like. If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The schedules come out around the time of each tours championship, so nothing yet. My guess is the PWT won't be back at Bago next year since they were here this year. The RCL maybe back, since they haven't been here since 02.

Your other option might be the RCL League.

Don't think the RCL tour can return to WI waters until the limit on tournament days is changed. I believe the law says max of 3 day tourney. RCL Tour is four days. I think they got around it previously by saying the last day was actually a separate tourney. After the last Bago RCL in 02, I heard the DNR would no longer issue a permit for the RCL Tour in the future with the 4 day formt. I will ask Sonny, next time I talk with him, and see if this is indeed the case.

Seriously look into the RCL League next year. IMHO, you have a much better chance of getting paired up with a good local boater. I've done 5 RCL Tour events, and 1 PWT, and have not been very lucky in the draw, until this year on Erie. Last year in the WI League, I entered two as a co, and drew really good guys, and finished 24th overall, despite missing the Green Bay event. I quilified for the finals because I had two good guys, and we finished well. This year so far, my finishes were not that great, but I drew Trap and Casey Bohn, both good WI fishermen. Had a spun prop problem with Trap, but we caught an important weigh fish on the Pete, and Casey's fish didn't go on GB. We still managed a couple good fish, and I am now 47th in the standings, I believe. A good draw and place at Bago next month and I will be in the hunt. I had a great time with both guys last year, and this year. I think I have 4 new friends, also.

Those are some good points Shep.
Sell it as two contests as it is.
With the new permit system who knows.
But Like I said I am starting a rumor.
Wouldn't it be nice.

Thanks for the input guys. The RCL League sounds like a good way for me to go just starting out. I know quite a few local waters so I would feel confident in how I was fishing, plus like you said, hopefully make some new friends and get more knowledge from the pros.

Do you have any tips or advice for entering the RCL League? Sounds like you guys are quite knowledgable about the tournys.

Darboy,

The schedule should be announced sometime late fall for next year. The entry for RCL owners should be around the first of February. If you can, get a boater to sign up with, as this will guarrantte your spots. Get your registration in as early to the beginning as you can. Then, sit back and wait for your confirmation. That should come around 3 weeks before the first event.

As for the tourney's, all you need to bring is appropriate clothing for the weather, and whatever food and drink you will need. Sunscreen, bug repellent(careful what you bring, and where you spray it in the boat), sunglasses. You are not allowed to bring any tackle into the boat. If you wish to prefish, by all means do it for the practice. You can always ask on the boards if someone is looking for a prefish partner.

Good luck, and have fun.

Darboy,

Actually there is one more RCL League tourney coming up. It is July 10th & 11th(if you make the cut) on Winnebago. You could still sign up for this one. You may go on a waiting list. The organization running the tournament, FLW Outdoors, does everything they can to get boaters if it has non-boaters on a waiting list. The interesting thing about this event is there is no competing "big" time tournament, so you could see some local pros(PWTers, i.e. Gary Gray) in this one.

If you want to check it out, go to FLWOUTDOORS.com and follow the RCL link on the right side of the screen, to the RCL League. Or you can call they at (270) 252-1000 to ask about the RCL League, Wisconsin division.

This is hard to say and do but I need to agree with SHEP (HEHEHHEEHE) here RCL league events are some times better fun and competitive for you get individuals who understand the waters of the area you fish on a regular basis. I personally enjoy League events for the personal touch than RCL Tour events some times don't have. Old saying is money spoils every thing and when you are talking the type of money tour is involved you get less camaraderie then on league events where it is still out for ones best but not trying to draw blood to get to # 1 spot.

Mr. Darboy feel free to call me if I can be of any assistance on league events or if you wish to pre fish the upcoming event.

Michael,

Thanks for the tips and the offer for pre-fishing. I'd reall like to fish that July event, but I already have other obligations

I am looking more at next year, and hopefully fishing the amateur side in all 3 tournys, or more if I do better. I'm sure I'll have questions for you in the future. Thanks for the help.

I agree that it will be nice to fish with some others from WI and get to meet some really good people and learn some new techniques without having to break the bank to fish.
