Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | I guess this question is for Walleye Express: Can you give us MWCers some places to launch besides Hoyle's? Four years ago they were charging 10 bucks a day. Are there other ramps where the water is high enough to launch? I was thinking Pinnconning or even Bay City. Thanks

I guess if I was going to pre-fish any tournament on the Bay, I'd launch as close to my chosen (pre-fish) test spot as I could and worry about how to get there (by water) if and when I decided this particular spot could/would put me in the money. With that said heres some options for you. Considering your boat is no bigger than say a 19' Lund and you wanted to try around the Rifle Bar/Pinconning Bar/Saganin Bar/1 & 2 Bouy/Black Hole area, the Great lakes Marina on Sagatu Rd, off State road would work well. If you just wanted to try around the Point AuGres/Rifle Bar/The Ledges and the South side of Little Charities, (where the action has been hot lately) the State Ramp at the mouth of the AuGres River itself would be my choice. If the Steeples area north of the Big Charities, Oak Point or Phelps Park was my serious (all day) test destination, I'd trailer my rig over to the Caseville Marina ramp in the thumb. If I was going to try the Callahan Reef/Coreon Reef/Fish Point/The slot/Histerman Island/Hogs Head/Sand Point area, the State Ramp or in Lindys Marina ($5.00 a day) on the Quanicassee River would be my choice. The Sebewaing River ramp would also work for these areas, but the channel is a VERY LONG/NARROW DEAL. Hoyles ramp fee is now $12.00 per day, and the State run Saginaw River Ramp at the mouth will get you anywhere near the man-made island, dumping grounds and Nayonquin Point area just as easy. I always figured the extra miles put on the truck and trailer versus the boat in possible rough water, was always well looking in to. ![]() Edited by walleye express 7/8/2004 1:00 AM

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | Thanks for the addition Dan. You managed to mention a lot of places we've fished when we were there before. Are the water levels up a bit this year? I expect they will be, seeing how Lake Michigan has risen some. Let's hope that Huron is too. When we were there in 2000 those old duck blinds were sometimes visible out from Hoyles.

The mouth of the Saginaw River Launch will launch some pretty big boats ,I launched a 20ft boat with no problems, use the 2 center launch slots, the outside launches are a little shallow, they get $24. for a season pass, they have no one tending the launch on week days...good luck fishing as it`s been great the past couple days, ( between the Isle and finn rd, 8ft. use 3/4 bouncers 18ft. lead good size fish.)

Which is nice because our water levels don't even max out for the year until mid to late July. And Terry is right. We fished out from Night road yesterday (1 mile East of the man-made in 6 to 8 feet) and got some nice fish. Just two problems. Lot's of unseen weed beds in and around that area making it work to run clean most of the time. And these fish would not win a tourney if anybody found the receptive pigs in deeper water. My cousin Mike Manyen won the local Labridie Tourney and came in 5th at the last MWT 2 weeks ago weighing in 53 pounds and change, fishing over deep water running keels and harnesses high in the water column. I know thats where the winners will be caught this time as well. Edited by walleye express 7/8/2004 6:45 AM

He caught 15 fish today and the small ones were 4 and 5's. 23 FOW, 1 1/2 ounce plane un-painted bottom bouncers, let it hit the bottom and reel up 5 cranks, not passes, cranks. Chartreuse #5 Blades and real crawlers took most of the fish. Edited by walleye express 7/8/2004 4:57 PM

Member Posts: 171 | Dan, Thanks for the info......will be spending 4 out of the next 5 weeks on the Bay....MWT, RCL, GNWC, MWC....man they sure stacked em together. As all of us know who fish the Bay regularly there will be several pods of tournament fish scattered all over the Bay from generally Pinconning north. Should be some great fishing......everyone remember if you're not familiar with the Bay, she can be wicked...be SURE you know the closest available shelter...by the way there is a protected inlet on the North side of Big Charity but be careful getting in there it gets shallow and rocky. Good luck all, now you Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana boys will see why I think this is one of the finest Walleye fisheries in the world.
