And please excuse the post about a specie of fish that don't get mentioned to often on any walleye boards. But I figure if Zach and the boys can talk about Ski's here, I'll really shake things up some. ![]() Anyway, our regular group of guys, along with a couple of newbys just firmed up our yearly reservations with Dave Kimmers Charter service out of Shelter Bay, for the 29th through the 31st of August on Stannard Rock, Lake Superior. Few other things hold the charm, excitiment and inert dangers that jigging for lakers 40 miles out on virtual underwater cliffs 60 feet down, in surrounding water depths approcahing 400 feet, on "The big lake they call Gitchigumee". And the prospect of hooking a true Great Lakes (native) trophy Lake Trout is always possible as well. I'll be taking my digital camera along and will share some picutures and the experience when I get back. Wish me and the crew luck.

Theres a Coast guard light house built on the top of the tallest reef out there and it's a natural Lake Trout spawning and feeding grounds, and like I said, it's surrounded by depths approaching 400 feet. Last year we fished it for two days and caught lakers approaching 24 pounds while jigging 2 ounce jigs with a piece of sucker meat attached. This was the middle of August and the surface temps out that far were in the low 40's. These great fish see very few fishermen throught the year as you could immagine. And jump on virtually anything resembling baitfish. And the flesh of these lakers are unlike the ones caught in the other lakes. These are the true (lowfat) native lakers with the orange firm flesh. Man, I gotta quit talking about them or go get the drule bib on. ![]() Edited by walleye express 7/20/2004 4:04 PM

Location: Rhinelander | A friend of mine popped a 40" Laker on Superior last week, a true trophy fish. That water kicks out some very big trout!
