Member Posts: 51 | Suffering from massive muskie burnout here (try reading EVERY ONE of the threads on the MuskieFIRST board 10X a day and you'd get it too) but need to chase some fish (no Dad, not crappies and bluegills again). Hoping to tie into some smallies (no, I have no walleye gear or knowledge) somewhere near the NW. Burbs of Chicago and will travel as far as 2 hours to get to them. The Big Lake is an option (thinking Kline Harbor), but the weather can easily erase that option. Anyone have lake suggestions for where to chase some smallies (from the 1690Jacuzzi) that is within 2hrs. of my house (Arlington Heights), wont be TOO nutty crowded by 11AM, and has an accessable smallie population? And yes this is a walleye/outdoorsfirst related topic, because if I chase Chicago Metro Muskies again this weekend, MuskieFIRST loses a moderator from total muskie burnout....then Zach, Troy and Steve Worrall will have to cover my duties and WalleyeFIRST will suffer.....so HELP ME!!!! I have purchased a day of fishing from the CP Telethon with Dave Landahl - that half-swede guy - and he told me of the marvelous smallie fishing to be had near there. I can't get the time off and would be willing to let you take my spot (assuming I can find that ticket!).

Member Posts: 50 Location: Loves Park, IL now Mt. View Ar. | Lake Geneva would be a good choice for smallmouth. The fishery is excellent as stucture, forage and depth combine to create one of the most productive resources in the Midwest. Smallmouth bass are abundant and self-sustaining with significant numbers growing to trophy sizes. Largemouth bass and northern pike are well represented with good numbers. Other Species are Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Yellow Perch, Crappie, Walleye, White Bass. If your in the NW Burbs this would be a good lake with in a two hour drive, but summer pleasure baot traffic is extremely heavy by around Noon on hot summer days. With the cooler temp. this has not been too bad. Hope this helps. Steve Anderson

Member Posts: 540 Location: Milw, WI | Madison chain, but watch the rules there . 18 min. size limit on some so lots of good fish to be CPR. Wisconsin river, dells down stream, praire du sac, smallmouth heaven at this time of the year. Can get them to take top waters if you like. Any current break, they have the feed bag on. Only problem is lots of shallow water, the river is down right now. By 11 am there will be lots of boat traffic at the dells.
