Location: Milw, WI | Fished the wolf out of Freemont yesterday.
Did not expect much but we caught even less.
What made this trip interesting is the boat motor rig I fished out of.
Vintage 1953, never even heard of the motor company.
Lund boat, Deep vee-ish 14(maybe)foot rebel, around 50/60's also, but redone this summer.
The motor was also redone, and did better than my nightmares of lots of rowing expected.
No depth finders, other than the jigs on our lines, but we did have a minnkota 65 MX.(that made me real happy)
Oh yea , life jackets very nearing the word....... vintage.(test floated in his pool, the 2 that sank went in the garbage)
Took around a hour to get motor dailed in to run any good.
And headed up stream to the first spot above the no wake.
Opened her up and she planed out the rig nice.
Then the "fun" began......a wake boarder.
The 5 foot wake came over the bow, and put a good 4"s of water in the boat," thanks dude"......
Well now when ever I touched any metal part of the outboard I was getting lit up Like a christmas tree, zap,zap,zap....
Used a napkin as a glove to run the boat and began the the fishing.
Well at 3pm we had to get off the river before we were got killed by the power boats.
We were taking in wakes over the bow and the sides, and were amost run through twice at this point.
Some buzzed by waving as if to say good bye, at about 20 feet away.
Do these people really think we have time to wave back while maneuvering the boat as not to get swamped by there recklessness.
Why do you need to run a 65ft boat with 3 I/O's up and down the river at mear feet from the fisher people.
Not a walleye nor a white bass caught.
Tiny cats, must of been 50 of them.
Baby sheep, bunch of those, and 3 rockbass.
The worst I ever done working that river, but every one we talked to had zip also.
Now the fun begins trying to figure out why the driver became the spark plug.
Good news is, I did not have to clean any fish when I got home.
