Subject: WHITE BASS OR WALLEYE?

THIS COLD FRONT AS OF LATELY WITH LOW OVERNIGHT TEMPS AND 50'S-60'S DURING THE DAY HAS PUT A DAMPER ON THE FISHING ESPECIALLY WITH THE WINDS . I AM LOOKING TO GO FISHING TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEK. JUST WONDERING IF ANYBODY HAS HAD ANY LUCK IN WINNEBAGO BY OSHKOSH OR THE WOLF RIVER TOWARDS FREMONT/ WEYEWEAGA? AS GUESSED BY MY GUEST NAME B/C I ONLY USE FLYS WHEN I FISH. IF NO FISHING REPORT TO GIVE, I CAN TELL YOU A HECK OF A GOOD WALLEYE/ WHITEBASS METHOD USING FLYS. THANKS FIRST TIME POSTER

Fly Man,

From what I saw this past weekend, the white bass are starting to show up in the fox. That fishing will keep improving.

I was really surprised to see how dirty the river was and the lack of current BUT we could have caught lots of white bass. Unfortunately we were looking for walleye.

Flyman,

Try the water discharge just down from Spellmans on the opposite side. It's by the benches on shore. I pulled a couple decent whities there yesterday, as we were passing through. Little current in the river as Sunshine said, but the whities are there, and out from Oshkosh on the lake, too.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I HAVE NOTICED THE WHITE BASS STARTING TO GO INTO THE RIVER. IT SEEMS THE WIND HAS BEEN BLOWING PRACTICALLY THE WRONG WAY FOR A MONTH. IT SHOULD BE BLOWING THE RIVER INTO THE LAKE, BUT THAT HASN'T BEEN HAPPENING TO MUCH. I USUALLY HAVE GREAT WALLEYE ACTION BY THE PIONEER INN IN OSHKOSH WHEN THE WIND IS RIGHT. BUT LATELY THERE HAS BEEN NO CURRENT TO CURRENT GOING THE WRONG WAY. WALLEYES STILL IN THE LAKE? I HEARD THEY ARE STARTING TO HIT IN BUTTE DE MOR (SPELLING ). THAT MEANS I MISSED THE FISH COMING UP THE FOX FROM THE LAKE. ANYWAY GOOD FISHING TO YOU.

SHEP, THANKS FOR THE INFO. I KNOW RIGHT WHERE SPELLMAN'S IS. I WILL GIVE THAT A TRY. WHITE BASS IN THE RIVER SEEM TO BE PRETTY MUCH SPREAD OUT RIGHT NOW, BUT IF I GET A MEAL WORTH THAT WOULD BE GREAT, BETTER YET HAVE A FEW WALLEYES ON THE STRINGER. THANKS ---THE FLY MAN

Hands down the best shore spot on Winnebago is in front of the old Ice House. I have fished there for 20 years and it has proven to be one of my best quick limit spots to this day whether in a boat or on shore.

I think I know! Do I Rich? hehehe I stopped by there on Saturday. Water was quite dirty, and no luck. But then again, I'd only been there once before! Tough bite all weekend with that cold front. Hoping things are better for this weekend.

Hey Now How about cuttin' a newcomer to the area a break? I understand if you don't want to post your hotspots publicly. A PM would be nice though

Viking,

I got one more tourney left this Saturday for the MWS. Come Sunday, I will post all, which may not be much, considering how I did prefishing this past weekend. 2 eyes on Saturday, and none on Sunday. Perhaps this warm up the next of the week will get them going again.

You do know the spot Shep. That spot can be REALLY good this time of year so check it again before the tourney. I always get them on 1/8 oz orange jigs with a shiner about this time. Those fish move around that huge flat so sometimes you just have to be patient but when they come around you will cream them. If you go more than 45 min without a fish they are not there. That spot bailed me out of two tourneys this year because of the tough bite. Good luck bud!
