Dennis,
I'm looking at a Global Map 5000 and wondering what chip will give me the best detail, I heard that there is one out there that gives contours to 1' is that true? I think I found a good deal on one of these and need some help, Will the "new" chips work with this unit?
Good Luck

Yes their is a reel bottom chip available for certain bodies of water that show 1 ft contours. I do know that Navionics will also have new chips out also that have varies contour improvements in next year.

If you are close to me and wish to try a chip I have both types here and will gladly assist you in this learning process.

I run a 7000 GPS and love it and know you will not disappointed with a 5000. If you can afford it look at a 19 or 104 instead you will find better unit with color. Specially in future chips that are coming up will need the processors of upper grade units to run right.
