I am looking at a 2001 Tracker Targa 18' with a 2001 merc optimax 200hp, tandom trailer, Minn Kota 74lbs trolling motor, 6 scotty rod holders, and a travel cover. The motor has 1 year warrenty on it and has a new powerhead. I can buy an extra 2 years if I want. The package price is 19 900 canadian. Do you guy's think that is a good deal? what about the motor?
Thanks for the help.

What is $19,900 Canadian compared to the same amount in American? That would be a determining factor.

So you're looking at spending about $24,000 American then, right? Sounds a little steep. The motor deal is good, as the additional years you could buy plus the existing warranty are nice. But, given the age of the rig, it seems a bit high.

I can sell you a boat that's 2 years newer (2003 Crestliner TS202), has a 4 stroke Yamaha 225 and a 4 stroke T-8 Yamaha kicker with full hull and motor warranties, Team Crestliner wrap, (2) color X-19 Lowrance locators/GPS, RAM rod holders, cover, Lake Tamer Suspension seats, tandem trailer, Minn Kota 65 AP w/Universal Sonar, and more for nearly the same price. If you are interested, email me at [email protected]. And more than likely, I can deliver it to your door.

He would be spending $16,616.50 (American) for that boat at todays exchange rate. The American dollar is worth more than the Canadian dollar (approx 20 cents).

$15,000... then I'd be talking! Heard mixed reactions on the Opti's. Good luck.

Matt,

If you know the owner of that boat and he took care of it, it looks like a good deal. Inspect the transom area and make sure there isn't any seperation of the welds. Go over the rig with a fine tooth comb, but it sounds good. Good luck!!!

AHHHHH....I'm thinking Tundra.....not Targa. Okay...check transom area for cracks in the fiberglass. Look for gaps, i.e. seperation....basically the same as the aluminum. Check the floor areas for gaps at the joints, like where the sides meet. If she looks solid it sounds like a good deal.

I just got off the phine with the salesman and the reason the motor blow up was the owner was using the wrong oil. So I have to take a look at this thing but I am a 10 hour drive away from the dealer.

Matt,

Ask him which oil he was using and which oil he considers to be the right oil. Also, since there has been one blown powerhead on this motor, tell him you want the warranty extended out further.....as far as you can get it.

I ahve a question, where abouts is this boat? I have a Buddy that had one just like you're descibing, he had a major repair done in Missouri at the factory, the repair was horrendous adding about 500 lbs to the weight of the boat, in a nutshell the factory bought him out of it and the dealer ended up with it.

Hi Rob, Thanks for the headsup but the boat is in Toronto Ontario, And I knew someone who knows the owner of the boat. The oil the owner was using the higher blend oil for the xs racing series motors and you should only run the otpi oil. Thats what the mechanic told me.

I'll add something. Make sure that the motor has all the updates prescribed for it. As has been mentioned, get as long a warrenty as you can.

Matt,

I own a Targa 2000 with a 225 Opti. I assume this is a Targa 1900 you are looking at? Nice boat, some differences between the two hulls/layout, etc but overall they are both good rigs. That price sounds reasonable for that boat. I would check out the Opti thouroughly. As was mentioned, I would check on if the Opti updates were completed and probably get an extended warranty. The 2001 year Optis had some problems. There has been literally thousands of discussions on Opti powerhead problems over the last several years. A search on any of the big walleye sites should give you lots to ponder. If you have any more specific questions, ask away-lots of knowledge on this site.
