perch fishing this season has been a real let down. the size and numbers are way down from the glory days of winters past.i`ve recieved many reports of fish in the 6-8 inch range. guys are having trouble getting 10 fish or more. i feel over harvesting over the last 10 years has dessamated the population. there has been alot of small fish reeled up from deep water that cannot survive when tossed back. i seen well over a hundred small perch floating under the ice last weekend. you have to keep every perch that you reel up,no sorting is aloud,if this practice continues the perch will never come back! i hope that anglers think about the future and not at the present, take every moment and think about your kids, should they suffer from our actions that could be prevented by over harvesting and wasteing of fish that are tossed back to certain death, and not following the rules of sorting on this lake mendota!!!! good luck to all of you[:)]

made the trek out to the sharp break off the west side of governers island, monday afternoon, with richard ennis and a we were set up by 330 and i had a flag soon after. as we walked up there was no dought that there was something on the other end. t-bar was spinning like a helicopter, yes i new there was a track star with my shiner carring it like a batton, slowly lifted the beaver dam out of the water and crossed his eyes and dotted his teeees. drove the wide gap treble home. FISH ON .. my first observation was correct, i had me a Northern Pike on the other end of my line. i was fishing with that board in 37 feet 6 feet off the bottom, with a medium golden shiner. 20 feet more to the west and the depth was 59 ft. i pulled him up as fast as i could, depth change slows them down momentarily, came up head hit the hole perfectly , 30 incher fat as a pig . wish it was yellow , with a white tipped tail. recieved 1 other flag at dusk, 8.5 inch mud puppy, four legs and not happy. but he`s still swimming. have some perch news ,i`ll start another post !!
