Location: Appleton | The Mercury National reply letters were mailed from Mercury today Wednesday March 16th. The alternate letters were also mailed today. The tournament was full the first day as normal.

Location: Rhinelander | I had to drop out last year to provide coverage here; kinda hard to fish and cover an event. I truly enjoyed fishing the Merc for a few years, and will miss the competition. |

| Hey Jim, just wondering how many "same teams" you had enter this year. I have been in the tournament the past 5-6 years but had to change partners this year. Our appliication was sent on the earliest possible date however we still ended up as an alternate. Was there that many "same teams" or a large amount of new teams and what process was used to determine which new teams got in? I also fish in the MWS and Fleet Farm every year and know that you guys run a first class operation so any info. would be appreciated. Thanks |

There were 254 same teams as last year. This was a combination of teams that fished in 2004 and alternates from 2004 that REMAINED SAME TEAMS. These were all postmarked the first day possible. Once all the last years teams and alternates are in we draw from the new teams postmarked the first day and then we draw from the second day and so on to make up the alternate list for this year. We have had a team drop out already today therefore everyone on the alternate list moved up one spot. The postmark date is very important as many teams take them to the Post office and have them HAND STAMPED to assure they are postmarked the correct date.
I should mention that there was over 300 entries the first day.

| JIM, WE ARE ALTERNATE TEAM #3.....TRYING TO MAKE SOME VACATION PLANS, AND WAS WONDERING WHAT YOU THOUGHT OUR CHANCES OF GETTING IN WOULD BE BASED ON PAST YEARS? DO MANY TEAMS USUALLY BACK OUT?

Location: Appleton | It is very hard to say how many teams will drop out. Since TFM have been doing the registration we have had as many as nine teams dropping out prior to the tournament. On the other side as few as one team dropping out of the tournament. We have had a team drop out already this year, so you are actually now alternate number two. I will keep all the alternates updated on any changes. I also tell any alternate teams even if they do not get in prior to the tournament and are still interested in fishing, show up for the rules meeting. If a team drops out at the last minute or does not show which has happened the lowest alternate team that is at the rules meeting will have the opportunity to fish. Hope this helps. |
