I fished the barge on Saturday, 3/26. Fishing was slow until around noon. I caught 8 fish total, including 2 15" Saugers, a 13" Yellow Perch, 1 nice 15" Sauger that came off before we could get the net, and the rest dink Saugers. 5 of us took three fish home a piece. We were catching more fish than many of the boats in the area. Fish were caught on Ringworms, 3 way rigs using a bait hook on the top leader, and also dragging a minnow behind a Carolina rig on a bait hook with or without a very small foam float. It wasn't fast and furious but you could scratch fish out if you took your time. As always, once we started catching fish, boats moved in reasonably close to the barge. On the barge, guys that hadn't fished by you all day were jamming themselves into every available inch of space, crossing lines and creating a mess. Some of the Johnny-come-lately's would cross your line, drag it all the way in, untangle themselves, and then walk off without even a "Sorry about that." Courtesy is sort of a thing of the past I guess. The situation was like trying to put 10 pounds of manure into a 5 pound coffee can, just a little too close for comfort. Most of these guys are looking for the quick bite and within a few casts would move back to another spot. The key was slow and steady. From the stringers that came off of the barge from the night before, I would say that the night bite is much better than the day bite.

Have fun out there,
bdirks
