I know of someone considering a Crestliner Fishhawk series...Told them I would put up a post and see what info I get back. Curious to hear from those with 2-5+ year old rigs about any concerns with cracked welds or deck problems..? Obviously the pro-staff guys who trade ever 12-24 months shouldn't be seeing problems..

Would you buy another one..?

If your uncomfortable posting here you can email me at [email protected]

Thanks in advance.

I owned a 17.5 ft. crestliner sportfish from 95 thru 2002 it was a great boat never had any problems with it at all.Sold it to a guy I used to work with and he loves it.In my opinion one of the top 2 or 3 tin boats you can buy.If I were to buy a tin boat again I would definitly consider another one. I have a 1999 Crestliner 1750 tournament series. I love the boat, no problems and never had problems. Deck is holding up great and no cracked welds. The only thing is I wish I would have gone a bit bigger and a bigger motor. I will be selling this boat this summer because I will be buying a new Crestliner 192 or 202 tournament series.

Sorry to break the string of good news. My buddy has a 2001 1850 sportfish and it is cracking. I am a welder by trade and the weakest spot is on either side of the weld. He did not abuse the boat he is 58 yrs old. It might just be a bad one like many other items you sometimes get a lemon.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have talked to a few others that own them and they are fairly happy with the boat.

Thanks again,

Mark

i had a 1750 fish hawk. in the first six months i had a half dozen welds in the transom break. they were waranteed and repaired. they all broke again along with the stringiers starting to pull out in the chine area. this prgressed from the stern to the midpoint. i felt the hull was bad. and wanted crestliner to replace it or use it as a trade in and let me move up, they declined. when i got it back i sold it and bought a starcraft. no more weld problems. bty the boat was rated for a 115 and i had a 90 on it. i can only imagine how bad it would have been if i had maxed the hp.

I had a1750 fishhawk for 3 years and fished alot of local turnys out of it never had a problem. I sold it to a friend and they have had it for 3 years now with no problems. I bought a 192 and am now selling it and buying a 202. Like anything you could get bad apple but I have been very pleased with my Crestliners

i know im gonna but a crestliner. Nevermind rivets, welded pieces are stronger than the metal itself if it's done right.

Ive had two 1750 Fish Hawks and loved them both and sold them past. No problems for me. I might buy another one within a year or so. For bigger water fishing you might want to go bigger than that model though. For river fishing there great and still affordable.

I ran a 1998 Crestliner 1750 Fishhawk with a 115 HP Johnson Tiller. Ya I overmaxed the horsepower (not such a big deal up here in Saskatchewan) even with that big engine after 7 years and some real rough water I never had any problems with the boat other than some of the deck screws kept coming out. Just kept chasing them with lock tight. I run a 1900 Pro V now but sometimes still miss the old tiller>

I disagree that an aluminum weld is stronger than the aluminum itself. The welds can be pretty strong, but the metal next to the weld gets weakened in the welding process. An aluminum weld can be fairly strong....However, it better never move or twist.
