Member Posts: 885 | Fished the west reefs again tonight (Neenah Area), same 9-11 feet of water as last friday, I got out late on the water tonight and did not start to troll till 6:30. I still managed to pick up 5 keepers in the 14-16 inch range running #7 shads, perch. And 25-30 Sheepshead and a smalley. I also got a big hit, played the fish for 10 minutes, had a gold flash right next to the boat and then dove again, I though for sure I had a 30+ walleye on.... so I played the fish real careful for an additional 10 minutes......and then netted a 31 inch Catfish.... darn... my knees are still shaking... I've caught quite a few nice cats on Poygan, but a Winnebago Catfish trolling is a first for me! Going out again Thursday... let you know if I catch anything...

New User Posts: 4 | Fished out of Stockbridge Tuesday, with one walleye for my efforts. 12 FOW, trolling a perch shadrap. Also got atleast 20 Sheephead. I also wanted to say: I saw a Sturgeon jump about 30 feet from my boat, and swim around with it's tail out of the water. Pretty Cool! I saw a post saying they caught fish on a Harness 40 feet behind a board. Do you run that with any weight, or just the harness? and how deep would that run a 1.1 mph ? Greybeard

40 feet behind the board at 1.1.... depends on spoon size but i would guess that will get ya 3-4 feet down

Member Posts: 69 Location: Chilton | Greybeard Try that harness with about 1/2 or 3/8 oz of weight 40' behind the board. That will get you down around 8 - 10 feet depending on your speed and choice of blade. 1 oz gets you to the bottom with about 35' to the board. eyegobye

Ill second that, most fish i catch and mark are between 4-10 feet down. 7-10 feet down is the hot range

As soon as the board started going under for the first one I knew what it was right away. Last year in the same tournement we hooked into one also and we thought we had the big fish of the day untill it came up. This past weekend we landed 2 out of the three we hooked into. The first one was like 7 lbs (estimate) the second snapped the line and the third one we weighed at 11 lbs. I should have cut the line on all of them. They managed to collect every line we had out resulting in a huge mess. They burnt up over 20 minutes reeling them in, not to mention the time and line wasted sorting out the tangles afterwards.

I had a "snag" that pulled my board completely under and it stayed under. Expletives flying as I was trying to recover it. Turned out to be a 10lb catfish. There for awhile I was ready to call the taxidermist thinking I had a walleye on. I've caught a few catfish trolling in the mud but not that big.

Member Posts: 87 Location: Neenah, WI | I've caught more cats this year than any other while trolling bago. We caught a 10+ pound cat on a shadrap 15 feet behind the board during the MWC tournament that we obviously thought was a monster eye with dollar signs attached. My knees were shaking the rest of the day... Strange, but the cats are up in the top 5 feet of water feeding right along with the walleyes.

Member Posts: 859 Location: Appleton wi | There are many 10- 20lb cats in the system i know i have caught them trolling the past 3 years wich i have caught about 20-30 cats a year the past 3 years. This is the time of the year they come down into winnabago. Catfish and walleyes feed on the same bait and can be schooled together at the same water column levels. So dont be spooked out of area that you catch cats cause walleyes are right there .
