Location: Neenah, WI | We fished on Saturday and a couple of the Walleyes we caught were spitting out some very small minnows. These were nearly an inch long with real silvery bodies. Sheephead? We didn't keep and clean any fish 'cause we were in a bar tournament (live release) so I don't know if they were all feeding on them or not. They must be Walleye candy 'cause there sure were a lot of them in the boat. Any ideas? |

Location: Green Bay, WI | I don't know if what I saw was the same thing your walleyes were spitting up, but we were camping at Columbia Park Friday through Monday. We fished until 11PM on Sunday and as I was waiting for the truck and trailer I could see a lot of minnow activity in the lights of the landing. I turned on the spot light and the water went crazy. I was able to net a few of them with my livewell net and they turned out to be gizzard shad and shinners.
I think this hot weather is going to mean lots of gizzard shad this year and that means the walleyes are going to be full. |

Location: Menasha, WI | I took the boys swimming at Brighton Beach on Friday and we saw huge schools of minnows. If those schools are distributed around the lake along with the multiple bug hatches there is certainly no shortage of forage. |
