Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | I have been useing vanish in the 20# test and am not satisfied with it. I have found it to become brittle and break off easily after landing just one or 2 fish. What brand of line do you use for your crawler harness's and how has it performed for you? I am going to be makeing up some new harness's over the next week or so and would like to have a little more confindence in my leader material.

Member Posts: 201 Location: Colgate, WI | Butch, I like to use the 20# Seagar leader material. It is tuff and holds up well against the zebra mussels and such. I use to use 14# Trilene XT but switched to Seagar. The 20# does not get all twisted together either like the lighter lines do, it is also invisible in the water. Give it a try, I think you will be very happy with it. Good luck.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Butch, I'll second the 20# Seagar leader material. Stinger is dead on about its use. BUT don't rush into this!! Do a thorough analysis and WAIT until AFTER the MWS tournament in Marrinette. I need you local boys to loose a couple on tournament day

| I use the Vanish LEADER MATERIAL. Notice that the guys taht use Seagar also mentioned LEADER MATERIAL. It is different than the regular Floro fishing line. COmpare diameters and handling characteristics and it becomes obvious. Use the floro LEADER MATERIAL and you will have no problems at all. | |||

Member Posts: 3899 | I use 15# flouro. Usually Seagar, but have used P-line and Scientific Angler with good results. They only break offs I get are from pike, and my pliers.

Member Posts: 340 Location: McFarland, WI | I also like P-line and Seagar leader material-(small spools) in 15 and 20#. If a snell fails it is because I tied it poorly. Some friends like Power pro due to lack of memory and abraison resistance. Larry

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | just so I am clear on this I gave vanish a 3 year run and will never and I repeat never put it on my fishing rods or leaders ever again. with that said thank you all for the input. I can't find seagaur up here so I am going to place an order into cabela's.

Member Posts: 859 Location: Appleton wi | I have more of a problem keeping fish from coming unbutton w/harness than the line becoming brittle with vanish. Maybe because i dont use my harness very long I am often tieing new ones due to nicks. I would be curious what you think of seagaur after you use it and if you seem to notice a difference. Also if for some reason you cant get it quick enough thru cabella's let me know i can pick some up for you in appleton and get it too you. Good luck in the mws Edited by eye Lunker 8/11/2005 6:28 PM

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | At the start of the year my brother put out some big bucks and spooled all his trolling rods with vanish transition. At the first MWS tournament he had three lines break off while removeing the board from the line the clips where fraying the line and causeing it to break off. So I pulled line off of 6 trolling setups and changed them back to mono. I tie new crawler Harness's every year and through out the year. You would be amazed how many of the harness's on my wrapers have the rear hook missing and many of these only caught one or two fish. I have lost all confidence in the line. As any tournament fisherman knows you have to have confidence in your gear and your presention if you expect to do any good. With this said I will give the Seaguar fluorocarbon a try before I go back to tieing all my harness's with Mono.
