Received my press release and information packet today about the new Ka'Boom Mean Streak, the Ka-Pop and the Sparx, which is a Nitro Shiner with a sparkle swish tail added. I must say, I was the most impressed with the Mean Streak, but probably because bass fishing is secondary on my fishing calendar. I new this new Mean Streak was in the making, but was both shocked and pleasantly surprised at the same time by it's overall design shape, and it's first run color selection (31) when I seen them. I can see where all these new lures will cause some sparks to fly both in and out of the water when they hit the market in 2006.

This week Dave at Kabooms sent me my sample ring alot of people and even myself included may not realize that Kabooms Winning Streaks and Shinners are available in over 40 colors each.

I am working at Gander Mountains in Green Bay, Joliet, IL and Merville, IN and if any one wishes to see all colors I have it with me. At some of the events I be doing a seminar on Great Lakes Walleye Fishing.

Adam.

The old Storm Lure company had a tot (in two sizes) they put the sprakle tail on, and it was called the Hot'n Tot Flash. Being prefectly honest, I used them with little or less results than the regular models. And it did indeed cause a deadening results to some degree and lessoned that (kicking effect) the Tot's were famous for. I think it does more for the design and attraction (to the fish) with lures that are going to be ripped and stalled for bass versus trolled for walleyes. Of course thats only my opinion.

Dan, I find that interesting. I have a few of the Hot n tot flash baits in the blue and chrome and they have always been a great producer for me here on Winnebago. In fact when I am having a hard time catching fish on my normal go to baits I put a Hot n tot flash on and I almost always get a walleye.

It sure is exciting being on the KaBooms Pro Staff wth all the new and neat baits coming out. Like I said in a post back around the 4th of July, the winning streaks and the old Storm Hot n tots were producing good results of eater fish here on Winnebago.

hi dan,
i couldn't catch a cold on those old hot n tots with the sparkle tail either. but to be truethful i probably didn't give them a chance. you know as well as i do, you have baits in your boat that are your "go to" baits when conditions are tough. you try the others for a little bit and go back to old faithful. just a confidence thing. i wonder if the jointed body itself will hinder the classic action of the hot n tot /winning streak? hopefully the mean streak will spawn a brand new action too irresistable to the walleye. i wonder if they would be the key to these tight lip fish we've had the last month on saginaw bay? startn to ramble so i'll talk to ya later...adam

Adam.

Don't confuse the Hot-N-Tot's with the Ka'Boom Winning Streaks. Nothing grinds Dave Storm more than that believe me. There are only streaks in the photo's I've posted and these are the new ones Dave has come out with. Daves feelings about the old Storm company are nothing but positive and sentimental, as he learned many of his own work ethics from the relatives and the people who started that company. And being an old timer myself (so to speak) with the old Storm company, few others knew their devotion to both the buying public and their reps/pro staff when they were in business than I did. And it's been hard for Dave to seperate himself at times from his new lures and the ones with the Storm product name. Of course when your name is Storm, that may just be both a good and bad thing in retrospect.

And Johnny, I don't think anybody has to tell you that whats candy to walleyes on one lake, can be a dog turd to them on another. And only the fish themselves know why.

dan,
i realize there is a difference in the two baits. i can see how that would rub him the wrong way. they are very similar, thats all i meant in my reply. in fact, i actually like the streaks better. all the old paint jobs are available at franks at our disposal. its great. i apolligize to dave and keep doin what your doin. good fishin...adam

No offense taken here!

Dan is correct on the "SwishTails", altering the swimming action of some baits. The KaBoom! Shiners (shallow only), is the lure with the Swishtail. The Deep KABoom SHiner is NOT avaialable with the tail, as the action for trolling was changed too much for me to like. The shallow KaBoom Shiners work well as a jerk bait, and slash-bait, thus placing the tail on them only enhanced the action for that type of fishing.

The joint on the Mean Streak intensifies the irregular seimming action of the Streak, and really kicks up a fuss! The same erratic and searching action is there, even more so. The lip is the same as a Winning Streak...the bait is a bit wider than a Winning Streak, to compensate for the added weight of the jointed tail section. The tail joint of the Mean Streak cannot "Fall" below the lateral line of the lure, keeping the front and rear trebles off of each other. Other jointed lures which are jointed in the middle, hang up hooks. Plus, the joint is super small, and creates an enticing tidbit for fish to zero in on! There will be 31 stock colors...

I hope you like the Mean Streak! It will be a big hit for us this year...Winnebago walleye should eat it up!

Dan,

I know what you mean about what works here may not work there, it's just interesting hearing about how baits differ from place to place. It is amazing also that what works for me on winnebago may not work for someone else on winnebago.

An example of that is this. I took a friend from work out on Poygan this spring and I put my three favorite shad raps on and he picked his 1 favorite and put it on all three rods on his side. I laughed at him and said I don't have much luck with that one. His reply was, thats funny because I don't do well with the ones you put out. Well, guess what? Both sides of the boat caught fish that day. His one color caught probably more but I caught the bigger fish. It is all a confidence thing. I now have some confidence in that 1 bait and he will now give the others a chance as well.

Bo.

Ya know, I've been giving that some serious thought. Mid october is my (in-between) charter season, just before Pheasant season starts, not quit the best duck hunting yet, and is the exact time when me and my bud fished out of huron 2 years ago, and caught some real monsters. Could you refresh my memory about both the port the tourney is at, and the entry fee per team amount?

Capt. Dan, The entry fee is $500.00 per team with a guaranteed $10,000.00 for Ist Place. We will pay 1 in every 5 boats entered. The fee, also, includes your big walleye pot for each day and big walleye basket of the tourny. We are having the weigh-in at Cranberry Creek Marina about 4 miles east of Huron. Come on and join us. I understand Just Lookn may be looking for a partner. Give me a call if you have any further questions. Bye the bye, you can look us up @ www.greatlakeswalleyeclassic.com Take care, Capn', Bo

Bo.

I'm going to e-mail Bob right now, and if he needs a partner and wants me to fish it with him, I'm in. Otherwise, I'd need to get another friend to haul his boat down, as the Grady is to big to haul that far, and the Jet Boat needs optimum wave conditions to work and be safe.

Yeah, Capn' Dan, That's a big 10-4. Towing your boat down would be a little hard. I think Bob's going to be moored on Huron River again. By the way, if Bob's not interested, I have another in mind for you. Cheers, Bo

Thanks Bo.

I'll keep that in mind if I don't hear back from Bob. He tends to dissapear (sometimes for months) at times without a word. Nice thing about taking me aboard. I come with my own list of proven (isolated) waypoint numbers I saved from that trip 2 years ago.
