Member Posts: 885 | Got on the water about 9:00 this morning, so much for trusting the weatherman... they predicted calm with a south wind.... I came out of the boat landing only to discover a very strong North Wind..... and 3-4 foot rollers.... Set up on the north end of the reef and started trolling with the wind...... I had to pinch myself.. it was that nice out there today... it did not take long for the action to start... about 3 minutes to be exact..... and then all hell broke loose, I caught and released a whole bunch a real nice fish today, but my third pass will be etched in my memory forever.... I had just set out my 3rd board when I turned to see the 2 boards on the right side were both dragging back with heavy fish.... (By this time I already had released 5 fish and I was only on my 3rd pass) So I loosened the star drag on the outside reel and picked up the inside rod and started reeling... It was a big fish and it felt heavy... I looked over to my left and my other board goes screaming back... Oh shxx.... I now have 3 big fish on all at the same time.... I reached over and loosened the drag on the 3rd rod and went back to trying to reel in the first fish..... and now my knees are starting to wobble because I can't get the dam board even close to the boat.... finally after a minute or two, I was able to get the board and release the line.... but the fish had other ideas and won't budge an inch... and I'm still shaking because I have 2 other rods, both with big fish I don't want to loose them... After a good 5 minute battle, I get to see that yes indeed this is a big walleye and not a catfish (I've been fooled before) I finally get this Walleye up to the side of the boat and it keeps diving back down to the bottom.... after another 2-3 minutes.. I net the fattest 29 inch Walleye I have caught so far this year... great.. but I still have 2 other rods with fish on. I pickup the second rod and it feels like the same fish... I have a 29 on the bottom of the boat in the net and now I have to step around the rod AND the net to try and reel in enough line to grab the board..... after a 3 minute battle with the same drama at the boat, I scoop up a nice fat 28 inch fish in the net that already contains the 29 inch Walleye.... So I'm down to the last rod and I'm tired and excited... after another 3 minute battle, I manage to reel this fish in (I'd been dragging it for about 7 minutes now) and I put the net back in the water and in goes another fat 28.... Lines all messed up, Walleyes flopping and tangled in the net.... and I'm grinning like a kid in a candy store...and not another person or boat in sight to share this experience with...... I managed to get all three fish unharmed back into the water and then spent the next 15 minutes re-rigging everything and laughing like a 10 year old kid... I continued to catch and release fish until I had to leave @ 1:00... I've many great days Walleye fishing at Bay de Noc..., Winnebago, Big Butte and Poygan, but today was a day to remember, I can’t help but think that my Grandfather who was a fishing guide and took me fishing every weekend as a kid, was somewhere up there smiling and laughing as he watched me act like a 10 year old kid once again!! Member Posts: 265 Location: Combined Locks, WI | Skeeter, I was coming down CE today and saw a truck and boat that looks just like the picture pulling in to Anchor Marine. I hope after a day like you described everything ended well or worse yet I hope your not putting her away already. Those are fun days, knocking down fish and not even getting time to think.

Hey Skeeter, If you ever need a partner let me know, I'd be willing to split the gas and bait expenses. I'm dying to learn about these big eyes on the bay, but never had the chance to venture out there. I live in Neenah and I'm off of work all next week. Once again nice fish and great reports! Thanx. Great story. Thanks for sharing. I've been under the weather the past few weeks, but feeling like my old self now, and ready to do some muskie/eye combos trips the next few weeks! This is encouraging. You still hitting the Gaeno's area?

Member Posts: 885 | Hit the water today at 7:30 (Ganos Reef) and started trolling in the same area as yesterday... The wind was out of the northwest and not very strong (not my favorite wind for Ganos). Pulled my first fish at 9:00, a dandy 22 that I put in the live well. Caught it the same way as yesterday, 45 feet behind the board @ 1.0 mph with no weights on a firetige with gold back over heavy weeds. And then I trolled pass after pass without a hit untill 2:00.... then I got 4 Eyes on 1 pass including a 25, 27 and a 29... all released, I kept a 17. So now I needed only 1 more fish to clean and I caught another 17 on my last pass at 5:15. I was marking a ton of fish all day long, but without any wind, it was hard to figure out the bite today. I have to work next week so I won't be able to get on the water till a week from Monday.... Let me know how you do!! Purple Skeeter
