curious how bite is and how crowded this time of year how is landing and parking there. friend invited me there next weekend. my boat never been on the river before. how far down from the dam can you still get into fish and not fight any crowds. any tips as b4 never fished the river before.

The bottom of pool 6 ends in Trempealeau just south of Tremp mountain, it is commonly referred to as the Winona pool. Trempealeau pool is pool 7 and ends at the Dresbach dam. Both are excellent pools and there is no need to hang in the crowds to catch good fish for those willing to venture south from the dam areas.

thanks guys! the book I have refer to it as pool 6. (sportsmans connection) but I see lake onalaska is refered to as pool 7. I'll just call it below dam 6. anyway thanks again. was planning to move down stream some depending on current and crowds. any other tips? best presentation. the little fishing I have done on smaller rivers has been pulling crankbaits. does this work this time of the year here. alittle nervous if water is high.

The presentations I like to use this time of year are three-way rigs with stickbaits and dragging jigs with ringworms. You can catch a lot of small saugers drifting with live-bait rigs. Trempeleau is my go to place in the summer, much less boat traffic than pool 8 by LaCrosse. (Maybe I shouldn't give that big time secret away). I do occaisonally see a big purple Tuffy with a Verado that's about 6 feet wide on the back of it though. You just have to ignore those guys, they'll get bored and leave soon enough. Seriously though, the bite has been ok but the guys doing the best are staying away from the crowd. Fish south in current breaks on sand flats and you'll eventually run into some pigs. Oh, one other note, the wing dams on this pool are awesome. I wouldn't trade them for any on 8 or 9,

Member Posts: 145 | The wingdams in Trempeleau aren't worth fishing....especially not in fall with bare hair jigs, ringworms or big shad tails. I accidentally caught these 2 less than 10 minutes apart on the same dam....and 9 more over 20"......all in one day. I thought that I died and went to heaven. Every one was spitting up 4-6 inch shad. That was around Thanksgiving, and my wife and I pounded fish for a solid week. Lots of eaters, and occasional biggies, but nothing like these twin sisters. I get bonus points for style ![]() Beav Edited by Beaver 4/11/2006 5:13 AM Attachments ---------------- ![]()
