Subject: Magellan GPS

I've inherited a Magellan NAV 6500 GPS Unit and I'm guessing it's 8-9 yrs old.
I understand that the company will no longer repair nor carry parts for this unit. Before I install it in my boat I would like to know what happens if the internal battery that powers the waypoint memory is likely to fail anytime soon and if that does happen does the unit still function?

Thanks for any response.
