Regional Walleye Fishing -> Wolf River Walleyes -> night fishing

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for some night walleye fishing in the spring. I think that I would enjoy the peace and quiet at night, more than playing bumper boats during the day. General locations, size, colors, of jigs. Is it better to get out just after dusk, or before dawn.

Here's what you want to do if fishing at night. I have found the best is to go late in the afternoon and do some drifting. Then about an hour or so before dark you will want to position yourself within casting distance of a sandbar adjacent to a deep hole. During the up run which is now, always find the lesser current which is inside bends. If the water gets high enough and floods the trees, go to the edge of those. If you are near a marsh where they are staging, get downstream to the first hole and anchor their. Whichever you choose, throw a jig to the hole and drag upstream or do the pumping action. Since the current can be heavy, I prefer a 3/8 or 1/2 oz. jig in either Chartruese/Orange or a Light Blue with a Blue head. I do not use stingers but do use a dropper line to alleviate twisting in the line.
Remember to always have your lights on as their are a lot of people running the river and you do not want to be hit.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Up run I depend on higher water for a better bite but still get fish on the sand bars in3 to 5 feet of water with 1/8 and 1/4 jigs at the edge of the lantern light.

Post spawn I use telescopic poles with 3-ways, a 3 oz weight and a stick bait just a few feet below the surface (1-4 ft) I also use planer boards and my trolling set up from anchored position. Don't spread them too far as I like to keep the boat and board baits in a tight pattern

I am always amazed at the information that you guys have to offer. It says a lot that you: number one, know all of these things that you post and: number 2, are willing to give that info out. Guys like you are few and far between in my opinion and I appreciate the help.

Took a trip today and looks like the river is open from at least New London on down. Few boats but water should warm slowly and fishing will heat up. We need either some water from north or rain as more water measns more flow and more fish.
One final thing is that if you can hear the frogs singing at night, the water is warm enough for the fish to get it going on. Good Luck!
