To All,

We welcome anyone who wishes to write reports on fishing, talk fishing, talk techniques, and, for the most part, start a thread on anything related to fishing. However, this board is not for soliciting for one's business. You are more than welcome to plug a product, a sponsor, or email the moderators of this site if you're interested in advertising here. Please remember this when you post here. Thanks.

To Jerry and All moderators,

What's the difference between plugging for ones own business and the constant plugging for crankbait and/or blade sponsors?

Has this become an issue because of the blatant extreme and constant spamming?

If a person uses a little more tact or does it less frequent, would it be permitted?

What's the difference between doing this and someone constantly advertising that they are making crawler harnesses?

What's the difference between this and someone saying, my boat is still for sale?

What’s the difference between this and someone advertising for an ice breaker weekend?

Where do you draw the line?

From an outside perspective, it appears that it's a problem more of duration, tact and blatant spamming versus someone being more creative.

My guess is that if the guilty party wrote the following it would acceptable:

Hey guys, I’m slamming them on the Fox River at De Pere right now. My customers are being successful using jigs and minnows. If you need any additional info contact me at my web site www. I fish ForaLiving.com. If you do not have your boat yet, let me know, I still have openings.

Where do you draw the line? Or is it an issue because someone is new, has never given positive input and just comes here to promote? Do you forgive the occasional obvious plug because the other guy usually helps others out so it's toleratable?

Hi DT,

You pretty much answered your own questions, from what I read. If Lloyd or anyone else wants to plug their business, it needs to be done in a tactful way. Posting your website withe pictures and telling us of your availability isn't the right way to go about it. The example post you made about slamming them would be just fine by me. If Zach or Steve want it done another way then I'm sure they'll tell me. Until then, I'll use my best judgement. If that is a problem for you or anyone else, just email me at [email protected] and tell me why.

By the way, Deep Throat, how do you like the new ride? (Yes, I know who you are.....;)

Thanks Jerry,

Wasn't questioning YOUR judgment, I just needed to know what parameters I (you, we) and others should work under. If Zach or Steve do not respond, I'll assume that they are in agreement. Many of us put a cheap plug in from time to time. Just making sure what is acceptable.

Oh yea, email me if you really think you know who I am........... we'll chat, promise.

It's really fairly simple; we encourage informational posts, even those that post pictures and mention stores or locations where a product can be purchased that is of interest to walleye fisermen. If it's a new lure color, new lure style, new sonar, rod, rell, etc, it's news and that's fine. If it's an obvious advertisement saying buy my truck, motor, frog snare and here's the price, call me; then it belongs in the classifieds or the buy sell trade board.
Let's say for example Dave's Kaboom releases a new color or lure. A post that it's available and can be bought now is great. Let's say you are a 'basement' bait builder, and have a new lure. A picture of the new bait and colors available is fine, because one cannot get that lure anywhere else. One even can put those items on the buy, sell, trae board and just an informational post on the message board. If you are a guide, put your website link in your profile, people see that then every time you post. Marine dealer? Bait builder? Tournament Pro? Ad your link. Here's an example from the Muskie board of a fellow working that one to the hilt:

Being a member of Muskies Inc is great.

I simply just don't have much time to contribute as much as I want.

I agree that the mag. needs to be sent out via e-mail, and not eat up such a large chunk of cash.

Hey Viking,

No, there wasn't a follow-up conversation after your post. I looked at what was posted and took appropriate action. I encourage Lloyd from Cedar River Charters and everone else who visits here to post and post often.

Hay Jerry

I read your PM. The new boat is great. The wraps sure turned out nice hay! But swing and a miss on me or jenn being DT. I really don't care what anybody post as long as its not about me or jenn.

It tickles me that some folks confuse being boorish with advertising.

I've noticed "someone" posting on several other boards as well. I think when your sole reason for posting is to drum up business it can be considered avertising! I watched "his" posts all last fall and even though I wasn't fishing his specific area the reports were helpful however he put a post up this spring and when asked the body(the body!!) of water he would'nt answer!! Thats pretty rude I thought. I believe I know the river and hope to try it soon but guess I have to be in his boat to know for sure!! Dennis L
