Yar Craft Pro Tom Kemos (WWR ranked no. 14 and a hot stick this season and last) says the bite is 'fair', but at this point it won't take 90#. Weather looks like showers, 75 degrees, and a mild start to the day. Winds are S to Se now going to NW tomorrow, 10 to 20 MPH. Watch for PWT Devils Lake Regional Day One coverage to begin tomorrow morning.

Pouring rain greeted the Pros as they launched this morning into the ever increasing waters of Devil's Lake. The lake flies are abundant and from all reports, so are the walleyes. Most of the Pros reported very good success in the prefish period, and a constant barrage of nice Northern Pike and White Bass between the desired walleyes.

The walleyes are very healthy this year, resembling footballs.

The weather reports are a bit dicey for the rest of the day, depending on what station one listens to. Wind in the Central and Southwest with storms, and storms and moderate winds elsewhere, with highs in the 70's is the best guess.

Couple of those staging area pictures look like Mille Lac ten minutes after you thought you were alone when you caught that fish. I'll be rooting for a select group.
Was prefishing there with Doc two years ago this time and the weather was just like that. Man that can be miserable, I bet especially for the guys with out at least a wind shield.
You guys from WF staying dry during the day?

Despite the Umbrella I got good and wet this morning, but the camera, for the most part, was dry. The lens kept getting all fogged up and full of water spots.

The morning album is ready to view!

Hey Zach! Will there be an interactive chat during the live leader board? That function is so cool. Unfortunately, I will be leaving for work about 5.

Not sure if he is in 1st or 2nd right now but Jason Feldner has an awesome shot at this tourney. He is originally from the Omro area and moved out there about 4 years ago to guide on Devils Lake full time. Great guy and its good to see him do well on day 1.

The bite was pretty good despite the flat conditions and the following downpours. The top two weighed in early, since each boat is allowed to bring in only 7 fish. No culling is allowed ionce the 7th fish is in the well, and with a weight in the high 20's to low 30's, one has to bet on the day being pretty much a wrap.

Pros reported a good crankbait bite, a good slip bobber bite, and a good jig bite. General concensus is that the system is loaded with Walleyes, and it's a matter of catching the right ones. The weather for timorrow looks more stable, which most of the Pros feel will improve the bite.

I fished with Jason today, we had a great day. I wish him all the best in the next two days, he is a super guy and very gifted angler. We currently sit in 2nd place.

Jason has been out in ND for more than 4 years. Probably closer to 7 or 8 now. The top 4 guys are all fishing the same area. Actually within 50-100 yards of each other. Thats how stacked up those big fish are right there. If any of these guys pull big weight out of there tomorrow I will be suprised. A LOT of boats are in this little area. It will be interesting, especially with over 3/4 the field still in the reach for a pay check.

Four or five years ago I was up driving literally around Devils Lake on every road I could find to do a map accuracy check of the Devils Lake map when I got the first version of it done. When I got to Minnewaukan late in the afternoon I decided to stop and get a candy bar and pop at that bait shop. The store owner was curious what I was doing and when I told him he had every one in town out looking for this guy he wanted to see the maps. I was ready to pull out after waiting for a while when this kid came in. Kid least wise to me. I tossed the laptop on the table in the room north of the counter and opened the file. After showing him a spot on the map behind where the store is, what was the sewage ponds, he started asking to see spot after spot across the lake as he copied coordinates down. After a bit he asked if I would be around later, but I had to get back on the road and get it checked out. Then he asked how he could get the map. I told him as soon as I got it to where I was comfortable with it I'd let him know.
Couple of days later I wanted to recheck the work I did on it so I emailed him asking if this coordinate I sent with was close to a house he was remodeling on. He returned that he wasn't use to using secounds on the GPS so he sent me back a coordinate that had just minutes. You should have seen the response when I said he must have used his GPS in the truck, mine was the front door. He was my first customer.
I always kept an eye on the leader board after that and tried to catch up to him when I prefished with Doc two years ago, but it was too much of a rat race. I don't know how much use he made of the maps but I'm really glad to see him doing so well in the tournament this year.

Jerry, just sent out an email but I should mention it's getting kind of close to time for the FLW to get you up and running unless you are really good with a computer or able to stop by the house with your lap top. Do you use Lowrance?
Warren

Forest Lake, MN is where 35 E and W meet north of the twin cities.
