Putting my money where my mouth is. I have already secured the camera and editing person and some additional help. The DVD willl include interviews with local law enforcement and candid footage shot in the no wake zones. This candid footage will be done during the week days so as not to focus on any time during which a tournament might be being held. We don't want ANYBODY saying the video or candid footage was shot to hurt, inhibit or target tournament anglers. A bristling conversation with a peer brought agreement that, not understanding some of these issues (courtesy, no wake rules etc), is a problem across the ENTIRE spectrum of boaters. This DVD is being done as an effort to provide a means to help educate all boaters and will be distributed for free via download or for our cost on the hard copy. We may be looking for some additional help to coordinate some of the planned footage. Those interested can contact me on the phone. I am unaware of anything out there so, if there IS something like this from our area out there already, please let me know so I can help distribute it.

Member Posts: 1406 | Doc, you might be better off shooting on Weekends as the locals have less traffic to deal with, you'll be able to include the average Joe, Tourney guy and by Tuesday with 70 degrees you'll get the pleasure boaters out in full force. Your best footage would come from this weekend. Let me know where you'll be, I suggest Orihula or the north end of Freemont even downtown New London is going to be a zoo. Good Luck Tyee

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | now you just need to get it so when Somebody wants to register there boat they have to watch the video before they can get there registration. This problem is nation wide it just gets more notice in congested areas like the wolf river and lake winnebago system.

Doc why not make it a 2 part video the second half could be"walleye poaching ". You could film the winnoconnie bridge fiherman and get them getting there limit and leaving and then coming back in a hour and doing it all over again or perhaps you can park near some rafts in new london and watch the raft guys fill the buckets(limits) the wifes and there friends picking the fish up while the boys drink beer and fish all nite long or perhaps we could video some dowtown locals fishing from there raft dock and since you already have been making contact with DNR we could get them to make some visits to some local boys in new london homes to see how filets are really in there freezer.Wouldnt that be a great show instead of calling it (cops) we could call it "DNR" and the best thing about it you could call your self the inventor of this whole concept and we fisherman will be talking about you and your new show for years to come

I don't know about video but many of those things are being done. The new warden is back from a stint in Iraq and I work closely with the head of the water patrol for the Waupaca County Sherriff. Boat numbers of suspected violators are being passed along as are comments about possible "problem" rafts. Believe me, some will be caught this spring.

Hey Doc, why are you giving the tourny yahoos a break?! They are the biggest offenders!!! It's time that the county sherrif up there cracks down on ALL the yahoos speeding!!! I've had to fish in no wake zones the last couple of times on the Wolf because of idiots trying to see if they could sink my 14ft boat with their wake. Last year this didn't even work, they kept at it in the no wake zones also!!!! I won't even bring my boys up with me anymore because of this problem!! Maybe your sherrif needs lessons, I'll gladly teach him on how to handle yahoos!! (been with Chgo PD 19years) Grow some Doc and video ALL of the offenders, because when i come up there this year I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Doc, if a toruny boat swamps mine going through a no wake zone, does this make him exempt?!! Hell no!!! If anything the tourny yahoos are to be showing everyone good sportsmanship!!! This means obeying the laws!!!!!!!!!!

Who said I was giving the tourny boys a break, not me! Chicago PD or not, please don't put words in my mouth. My statement is clear that I didn't want my video to be viewed as an attack on tournament anglers and that the goal was to provide a tool to educate, that's what I do as an outdoor writer. Regarding the tournament boys, believe me, I have had a direct talk with the head of the water patrol for Waupaca County and the DNR, and we are all "in the same boat". Thanks for your input, would carry more weight if it were a personal email or letter, signed of course

Member Posts: 84 Location: Hartford, WI | Doc do you think after the accident today on the wolf that the Dnr or local sheriff will start to enforce an all out no-wake on the river. I just feel that is to small of an area with some very sharp turns to be going half throttle. Thankfully no one was hurt.

No I don't think the entire river should be made a no wake. Very glad no one was hurt.

Doc, Those were your words!!! But in case you forgot what you wrote here it is... "This candid footage will be done during the week days so as not to focus on any time during which a tournament might be being held. We don't want ANYBODY saying the video or candid footage was shot to hurt, inhibit or target tournament anglers." Now, I would say you are giving them a break! Will anybody disagree?!! Last time I checked my boat registration, and fishing license cost the same as thiers!! So why do they get to break the laws and courtesy? PS Here's my email [email protected] SIGNED John H.

John, you can read into it what you want, but again, my statement stands on it's own. It's NOT giving anybody a break. Don't want the piece to be an attack on tournament anglers, want it to be for education of any or all boaters. What's wrong with that? Tournament anglers should have had their own wake up call during the PWT as anglers were disqualified for no wake infractions. GEEEZ, damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Member Posts: 64 Location: Winneconne | Doc, it just goes to show you cant please everybody, some people are so thick skulled that it just doesnt pay to argue. i think its pretty proportionate as to whom is more discourteous, both tourney fisherman and rec anglers. I spend enough time in New London in the spring to see it all, so for someone to try and tell me who is more at fault just isnt the brightest crayon in the box.

Okay Doc, I was on the wolf 20May-24May. I got 7 registrations for ya. 6 from WS and 1 from IL. I finally gave up writing them down, it was either write down numbers or try and fish. Fishing won out. Things are as I expected on the river, worse!! Unfortunatley some of the biggest offenders either have well camoed numbers or no numbers at all. One boat , a dark green all species ranger boat from IL ( the reg was in black letters, very difficult to see). It's a new boat, with merc engines, and the driver is a male/white, blonde hair, and heavy. On numerous occasions he woould come flying tru all the boats anchored by the bridge in Fremont. I guess he thought it was his own obstacle course. Each time he cut about 3 lines on average. I know this because I would see guys stand up in their boats and yelling at him with nothing on the end of their line. I myself being a victim once. i had friends on the river after I left and when i talked to them before i could even say anything about this guy, they described him and his boat, doing the same thing. What an ass!!!!!!!!! Would love to meet this guy and have just a few minutes with him. A boat with no numbers at all was a white cabin cruiser with yellow trimmed interior, with the name on the back starting with 'Bunko." Would love to meet the owner and girlfriend of this boat also. Unfortunatley didn't see or hear of you out on the river in the no wake zones the whole time I was there. Wanted to say hi and give you the numbers I had.
