I own a trailer in WI, so I have an address. I am out of state. Can I register my potentially new reeg in WI? And does that mean a DNR # and plates for trailer? Or just DNR # and I have to get trailer registered in home state? |

| I'd register the rig in MN. I understand you don't pay State tax on a used boat in MN. In WI, you will pay sales tax on any rig you buy, new or used. And I don't think you need plates for you boat trailer in WI. There may be a size limit, but I'm not sure when that kicks in. |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | My tournament partner lives in IL. and registers his boat in WI because he says it's cheaper. He says that he found out that you can register a boat in any state that you want.
I believe that in WI, you need plates on a trailer for any thing over 3,000 pounds. |

A title and registration is not required for trailers operated at or less than 3,000 pounds gross unless used for hire or rental. Title and registration is encouraged for vehicles that will be used on roads outside the state of Wisconsin, as other states' registration laws may be different. |
