It's raining here in Rhinelander with pretty strong west winds, and that weather is headed for the Pros and Co Anglers out on the water now. Winds are supposed to be sse tomorrow at about 8 to 10 MPH with partly cloudy skies.

This is the final Qualifier for the 2006 PWT Circuit, so many of the anglers have their finish in THIS event as the final push to make the Championship.

Watch for the WalleyeFIRST leader board to begin at about 2 Central Time!

The weather was the key to the bite for many out on the Bay today, as the fronts moved through and the wind switched directions 4 times during the day. Bob Probst Jr. had the fish wired despite the changing conditions, bringing 5 fish to the scales that weighed in at almost 27#for the day one lead. The following Pros have weights over 20#, and Gatske, Neu and Brumbaugh are within a one fish differential definitely within easy striking distance of the leader. It took a good pair of fish over the slot and 3 solid under the slot fish to make the top ten. There were a large number of 3 fish baskets today with two good fish and a single slot.

3) PATRICK NEU

There is a strong warm front to the south with violent weather along the frontal line forecast for tomorrow, most or all of which should miss the Escanaba area and have no direct effect. Thursday looks like winds out of the East about 8 to 10 MPH.

Friday looks VERY challenging after the front passes, with South East winds forecast at 20 to 30 MPH. SE is a VERY bad direction for strong winds on the Bay. Tomorrow's total weight just might be the final if the weather holds to the forecast.

It was good to see Yar Craft/Mercury Pro Chief Papineau fishing the Regional after a very tough spring and summer with his health. He had the largest fish today, too!

I was looking at the results and don't see Carl Grunwaldts name. He was in 30th place coming in. Is he not fishing, what happened.

Carl had other committments this week, and couldn't fish this event. There were a few Super Pros who made the big show deciding to skip this event and get some at-home time before the Championship.

One Pro had to drop out due to rig problems, one had to head home because of family needs, etc; it's a snapshot of life in the competitive angling world!

This event is somewhat of a 'who's who' of the top local sticks on the Bays with top anglers like Chief, Glen Chenier, Lynn Hanisko, Sunshine, and a host of others competing against some of the top names in competitive walleye fishing in the last regional of the 2006 season. That's exactly the goal of the PWT Regional series, encouraging anglers across the country to fish a PWT event or two, perhaps then entering the Pro ranks in future PWT events.
