Member Posts: 744 | I was out pulling large stickbaits on Butte des Morts yesterday. I'm in 7.5 FOW and I know my graph should show a flat bottom where I was, but I see what looked like weeds on my graph. It was solid "stuff" from bottom to 3' off bottom. Just as a I notice it ot on the graph, by tattle flags start flipping down and back up just like if you were dragging your lure too shallow over rocks. But they weren't too shallow, I was hitting fish! No joke, I was over a huge school of solid carp. It was like nothing I had ever seen. My boards would snag a fish, get pulled back a bit, then let go. The flags were bouncing all over the place as my lures ran into fish almost constantly. I eneded up "catching" 4 carp in two passes plus two carp scales and lost another 4-6 coming to the boat. This school strectched from Oakwood Point to about 200 yds west of the 41 bridge. I don't like carp, but this was still a pretty cool thing to witness. Thankfully, I am heading to LBDN in two weeks, so a carp won't have to be the last fish I catch from my boat this year! Member Posts: 744 | I hope you didn't just jinx me! If all those carp had been walleye, I'd still be out there trolling over them. Looing forward to LBDN, but we will be wearing alot more clothes than you were in that photo! Dave S

I also hooked a large carp about the same size as Jaymans last year at Bay de Noc... I was out on the water by myself in the middle of the afternoon and was running husky's down near the bottom when a board when shooting back. I had to reel in my other board and then I chased this fish for 5 minutes. The first flash I got was a golden side and I thought I had a 15 LB Walleye on. Imagine my suprise when it turned out to be a carp. I was so week in the knees by that time, that I could hardly stand. The one thing I rember was how bright gold this fish was. Shortly after that, I hooked into another monster only to have it be a 6 lb bass. Not being a bass fisherman, I wacked it over the head and threw it back for the seaguls to eat because I did not want to get my livewell dirty by adding a bass in with the carp I kept..... just kidding. I'm also headed up on Thursday for 6 days of 20 hours on the water. Jayman, I promise, my brother and I will keep our fish seperated and I won't give him anything over 9 lbs to register at work.

Member Posts: 1656 | Anon (if that's what you call yourself hehehe), WI fish only, I don't make up the rules. hahaha When that one came up next to the boat, I remember looking down in the water and about 10' down saw this huge brown thing. We thought "WTF is that?" hahaha Then this big ole carp rolled up next to the boat. And she had the common LBDN "stink" on her. Good Luck to you and your brother this year.

Member Posts: 744 | From carp to sturgeon, this was the baby we hooked into on Poygan yesterday. You're not missing anything, Viking. For frame of reference, the musky bait is about 11" long. Fish was safely released. Dave S
