Location: Chilton, WI | I just picked up two spools of lead this weekend and I was wondering how most of you guys rig it up. I plan to attach a 50' mono leader to the lead but I don't know the best way to attach it, what kind of knot do most of you use?
I plan on giving lead a try in the deeper water on LBDN next time up if the wind isn't right for the reef. I was up there this weekend and didn't boat a single eye in two days trolling the reefs. It would be nice to have another option when the shallow fish aren't cooperating, so any tips on trolling with lead core up there would be appreciated also.

| Scrap Iron,
The "willis" knot (named after some salmon guy) is a good way to attach leaders to lead core. Bascially push the dacron sheath back and remove a few inches of lead. Next slide your leader material into the dacron sheath. Tie an overhand knot with the sheath that traps the leader, this can get tricky with really long leaders. Once you make the overhand knot, pull snug on the sheath and you should be all set.

| Here's a good example of what you want to accomplish. I think it's easier to tie the overhand knot after the leader is in the sheath.

| I have found that a nice loose overhand is not too bad to feed into with mono. I would imaging superline is another story. Doing this on motionless dry land has its advantages. Thanks for putting a name to it. "Willis Knot"

| "Willis knot" came after some guy salmon fishing tied it, but it didn't have a name. If ya like you can call it the "Ordway Knot", Jim.  |

Thanks but I have to pass. In all fairness, it was shown to me some years ago by Jim Kissinger "fishnfool". I am sure he also learned it somewhere, but I will honorarily call it the Willis/Kissinger knot henceforth.
