![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Just finished what amounted to a 2 day job of shrink raping my own boat. Always looking for places to cut corners and save myself from throwing money down that deep and never filled hole I call a charter boat business, I decided I could spend the money and buy the equipment, and could recoup in 2 years the price of having it done professionally. Wulp, let me tell you what I've learned in the last 2 days about this subject. Never try to do this by yourself, especially on any kind of a windy day. Prepare to have that 31 X 17 piece of shrink rap kick your azz if your over 50 years old. The up and down on the ladder itself has hobbled me for the rest of the week and maybe my life. Always buy the size shrink rap one size bigger than the one (Clide at West Marine) tells you should fit your boat, or have 3 of your buddies over to help hold all corners. Ya know, I was thinking I might even advertise to shrink rap others boats and make a few extra dollars on the side to pay for the equipment I bought. That ain't happening with any boat bigger than 19 feet, so I can stand safely on stable/level ground with the blow torch shrinker in hand. Did I mention that I now only have eyebrows, a mustache and a beard on one side of my face? ![]() ![]() ![]() Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

The rap is supposed to look like a straight/even blanket from mid-ship up, but because the size of the rap was to small it looks more like a string bikini on the boat. That was a big part of the nightmare, nothing extra to work with. But "Clide from West Marine" said once I opened and unraveled the 31 X 17 sheet I bought (under his expertese guidence) I could not return it. But he would be more than happy to sell me the next size bigger for $139.99. I could hear the phrase "Fish-ON" being muttered in the background just before I hung up on him. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 11/11/2006 11:40 AM
