The area that I live in only sells small crappie sized minnows this time of year.
Since I can't get the large sized minnows that I need for late season saugeye I have thought about ordering some pre-packaged fathead minnows through Cabelas.

Can anyone share their thoughts and past experiences with these ? Do they work if I were to tip them on a jig and are they worth buying or should I make the 2 hour round trip for live minnows ??

Thank you in advance for your input.

They work quite well. I always bring several jars on fly-in trips to Canada. I have also used them successfully in Wisconsin. Did you ever consider buying your own aerated tank to store minnows. Cabelas also has them in their catalog. You can even mail order minnows in bulk and save the trip. Check your state regulations, I think there is a limit as to how many minnows you can have without a bait dealer's license.
