Member Posts: 69 Location: Chilton | Does anybody apply a substance to the wedge end of seat pedestals to keep them from sticking in the base? Maybe graphite, or grease, or WD-40? Or will that just cause more problems with the plastic inserts? Probably best to remove them periodically, but sometimes they get neglected for long periods of time. thanks Eyegobye

Member Posts: 56 | Don't use WD-40. It can do some funny things to certain kinds of plastic. I once sprayed some WD on a couple of Roberts rodholders to keep them from squeaking and both snapped off at the stem within a month. I contacted the company and their engineer told me about the WD issue. Something that will work and is labeled safe to use on plastics is Blaster's TDL (Teflon Dry Lube). I buy mine at Menards. Watch the overspray when you use it- it dries blue in color. I use it on the connectors of my Lowrance units. Spray it once and it's easy on - easy off for the season. Jim Carroll NPAA #13

Chris, Was having the same problem in my boat. The guy I fished Otter St. with this year applied a light grease that he had to the plastic of each pedestal. I beleive he said this grease was used for elevator pulleys/cables. He put it on in June and the seats still popped right out after our PI musky trip. I'll try to get in touch with him to see exactly what it was. So far its worked great and hasn't caused any problems or attacked the plastic. Will let you know when I find something out. Did you and Phil get the musky pics I sent? Brian B

I have used the spray silicone on mine once a year for the past couple of years and that has worked great. It dries fast and no mess or stains on the carpet or interior.

Member Posts: 33 | Something that works for me is to make some washers out of milk jugs that will go down into the bottom of the hole. They prevent the taper from shoving itself so far down into the recepticle, but do not prevent the latch from catching. As the seat wears in, you may have to add a second washer. You will not get any "wobble" as it still seats itself well. Also, for lube, someone told me to use "Pam" spray cooking oil, have to say it works good. I change my seats around quite a bit, and these 2 things have made it much easier. Good Luck

Member Posts: 69 Location: Chilton | I like the Pam idea, mostly because I have some available here at the house. I would like to get a hold of a couple ounces of that elevater lube though Brian, if nothing else it would be a good conversation piece. Get me some, and I'll buy you a beer at the Quinney Quencher during Sturgeon Spearing. Nice job on those Musky pics. Hard to believe the weather was colder during that trip in October than it is right now. but that's the life of a disgruntled ice fisherman. thanks Eyegobye

Just rub a bar of soap on them. Works great!

I used a round wire brush that fits in my electric drill to take all the crude and film off the sidewalls of the base. Haven't had a problem since.

Member Posts: 198 Location: Gladstone, Michigan 49837 | there's a product made in Iowa I believe called "seat release." Got in my boat and works great! Was an article in Walleye Insider some months ago about it, actually I had them on my On-line catalog for a while. you can buy them directly from him, thinking website is http://www.boatseatrelease.com They work great and with all the different size people sitting in my boat while guiding the seats always come out with ease!!!!!!!
