Left the house around noon to check on the ice conditions. There was 3 to 4 inches of good ice out in front of the Bay City State park Tuesday as far as you coould see, but 90% of it blew out Wednesday. Whats left is about 200 yards of snow covered ice that meets open water, and there were 3 guys fishing right on that very edge today as I went past. Then the ice pack progressively widens as it snakes downshore towards the Boutell Road corner, and seems to be taking a solid hold from the Old State Park lagoon on a straight line to Linwood road.

I had planned to take a good look all the way to Ericson Road, when my cell phone rang. It was the wife telling me about an add in the paper for lab puppies. We have been trying for 3 or 4 years (with no luck) to get my lab Otter mated so we could have some offspring from what is the best lab I've ever owned. He's going to be 9 years old next summer and we have decided to buy another female for a child bride, before Otter gets to old to function properly. Luck would have it that these pups for sale were only 10 more miles up the road from where I was. I liked what I saw and we now have another mouth to feed.

I told the wife that the new look we gave the living room recently seems more fitting now.

Shep.

Only been 3 days and she's already house broke and helping Otter with some of his chores, like brining the wife her slippers when she gets home in exchange for a treat. Wife taught her to set patiently by the treat drawer after she comes in from doing her duty. I'm working with her on sit, stay and retrieve in the living room. But it's hard, being Otter still loves that game as well, and often reaches the toys before she can and the tug of war begins. He's also starting to like Abby, and wrestles with her now quite often. My buddies Rooster Ranch opens in August, hopefully by October Abby will be flushing and retrieving.

I miss the smell of puppy breath, looks like the little gal could have some size to her down the road. Is she out of a field breeding? Cute pup.

She has a real good field pedigree on her grandfathers side, so the blood is still strong in her. Her Ma and dad look awsome, even though they are not hunted much because of work obligations of the owners. I'm hoping with Otters guidence (pictures below) in the field, she'll learn quickly and turn out as good as he is.
