Member Posts: 3899 | A good welding/fabrication shop should be able to handle this. Have you tried to contact EZ-Roller? I think that is the trailer under your boat? They may have a kit. I have some pics of mine if you need some for the fab shop. But then again, sell that rig, and buy mine! hehehe

Member Posts: 265 Location: Lincolnshire, IL | Thanks Shep I have checked with a couple of local shops and am in contact with the manufacterer(MFI Trailers in TN). I was just soliciting to see if anyone had any recommendations here in WI. Checking out all options...conversion, selling, upgrading, downgrading, trading, status quo, etc. Wade

Member Posts: 3899 | I know one shop in Fond du Lac that could handle the job. Flaherty Welding. At least they used to take on work like this. From the fabrication end of things. You may have to have somebody else(you) add the flexible hose from the back of the actuator to the brake line. Piece of cake for that part, and running a new light harness from the split to the front.

I put a swing tongue conversion on my trailer last fall. It's really E-Z. I bought the kit from Fleet Farm on sale for $70, regular price was $110. I think Cabela's has the kits also. The work took about 2 hrs not including picking up the the sawall I rented for the job. The worst part of the job was cutting the trailer tongue, actually getting the courage to do so. All in All not a big deal. Bass & Walleye Boats magazine did an article on the self install swing tongues in the Aug 31, 2006 edition. Here's a link (hope it works) www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?id=1141615 I used the same kit from Fulton. Good luck Tim

Member Posts: 794 Location: Elgin, Illinois | Anybody ask their insurance company about this issue? I would wonder what, if any, the negatives could be...? If the trailer breaks away from the vehicle is the insurance company going to stay "responsible" if you have altered the trailer in this fashion...??? I hate being the wet blanket but I would not want someone to get in deep "cakah" for trying to improve their life...

I guess anything can happen, I honestly doubt the swing tongue would fail. The Fulton set up is SOLID. That being said, I guess someone could forget to attach the trailer to the tow vehicle, or leave a pin loose. I've seen alot of weird stuff happen with boats. Saw a guy "launch" his boat on the ramp one day "OUCH" really hard on the fiber glass. Sure check with your insurance company, but I'd get it in writing as after what I've seen the insurance industry do to the folks in the New Orleansarea I really don't trust any of them. Tim
