I've seen anglers pushing jon boats out and alos plenty of box tip ups in town. Water levels are up quite a bit right now so there should be some fish moving. I can't wait to get out in the boat.

Thanks for the report joel. Sure wish the river was open i could use 48hours of jigging time to cure the winter blues!

Lot of busted up ice in the main river channel moving down, the shore ice looks to be "holding" still. if it gets as warm as they say, this weekend might be good to go.

On sunday at Fort Fremont Marine, we walked on the ice with open water on the other side of the river and drilled holes for tip ups. The ice thick ness you ask? 15", yep thats right. This a.m. there are chunks piled up in the 50ft wide open water on the other side and remember, there is a 30" thick chunk on poygan that doesnt move around alot that will keep it jammed up. There are very few broken spots all the way to new london. I am sure the rain and wind is gonna help alot but I doubt by this coming weekend.

Pete & Joe went out about 12:50am today...downtown New London is clear except for a jam of ice by the Shawano St bridge...not a lot of junk floating down...yet...

River is almost at 7' per the USGS guage...

Very fast ice out this year...the rain did it's job yesterday..

Good luck and be careful!

Same thing here in fremont. On wednesday there were jams of sheet ice everywhere. Today, Thursday, they are gone and there are boats running the river. Lots of little ice coming down so be careful but I talked to the guys in a air boat from the rescue force that was out warming up, and they said that poygan is frozen and there are no ice jams at the mouth or anywhere along the way. I guess the thunder and rain put her down last night.
