March 30th. Little Bay's update forecast, Friday.."

end of the month of March already and how quickly conditions change.
Daytime temps. in the 40' to even mid 60's in the past several weeks with rains, thunderstorms, winds and sunshine is BREAKING UP THE ICE FAST!
Shoreline ice is fast eroding and mid-lake ice has that "honey-comb" look of black, rotting ice.
Conditions throughout both the upper and lower Bays and only an occassional fisherman been seen in the past week. Much open water being seen off Saunders and Hunters Point region. The river mouths from the upper Bay including the Whitefish/Rapid and Days having good flow.
South and the Escanaba River is also flowing quit fast. Lot's of open water out and around the Escanaba Harbor Lighthouse areas now.

FISHING UPDATES: as of last week a spur of fishing traffic on the inland lakes with some nice catches of bluegill, perch and crappie.

OTHER FISHING UPDATES:
Steelheaders are reporting fish on some of the local rivers like the Whitefish, Days and Cedar Rivers. Waters up around the Marquette area also like the Chocolay River system and hearing of some good day to day catches from fisherman.
Bait choices; many anglers drifting yarn eggs and spawn in both single eggs and sacs. The "hunting" for these fish is an adventure in itself making for a great day of being on your favorite piece of water.

Boat anglers are now working the waters off of both the Marquette and Munising waters for Salmon and Lake Trout. Trolling spoons, minnow style baits and plain casting has been working.

WALLEYE ACTIVITY: lots of fishing activity going on south of us starting at the Menominee River system working south and right now the Fox River, Green Bay off the Depere area with lot's of fish being taken daily. Boat traffic too has increased with this warming weather.
Vertical jigging/minnows and casting of crankbaits taking fish.

Keep focused fisherman, a little over "40" days and May 15th. Opener will be here. I've been hearing from anxious clients coming up getting that fishing "bug!"

Good luck on the waters, Marty
